Quickhaven logs 5/4-5/6

5/4

3-4pm: I made a few more videos, hopefully helpful, showing the Altar if Light, then Energy Bridges and Thermal Expansion machines in real-case scenarios.  Meanwhile, mining turtle was widening the tunnel from my house to village to 3x5, for future tracks going both ways.  Found some ores along the way: 5 Sn, 20 Cu, 9 Al.  Plenty more of those useless small quartz crystals.  Factorization: total 43 crystalline gold (started with 12 gold ore here).  Since tin seems so hard to find, and so easy to use up, run my 5 tin ore (16:18): Grinder gives 12 dirty gravel, then into slag furnace, and into crystallizer for 19 tin (almost 4X) ... will be ready in a while, then I have 43 reduced iron to run after that.

Edited down 2 of the video topics from yesterday.  May start a singleplayer creative world to set up video demos better, but I'm a survival world guy, and I like showing items being used for real.

Lunch visit - Rutt and Iceman were down in tunnels fighting mobs.  Iceman hasn't had much chance to play -- and it's HIS server! -- and he really wanted the usual solar panels, so I dropped off some silicon plate and carbon plate while he built an MFE.  Then I extended by town a bit further out over the sea and added another big xy tank next to IC2 lab.  I'm thinking of connecting the IC2 and Center buildings into one massive structure.

11pm - out of lava, out of netherrack, out of biomass; drop off 8 netherrack, 32 biomass cans (tank is down to 16K need to go on a bio run).  MFSU at 9.5M.  After filling another lapotron.  Huh.  Odd situation, I have so much power I need to run some of those really expensive centrifuge recipes to keep it in check??  Also lit the main tunnel section with glowstone blocks.  I just made my first batch of lumar yesterday, I always liked the lumar lamps, but the FTB site says Redpower may go away again, so skip it.  Then I looked at xy lights, then duh (!), just use the glowstone blocks, that's what they're for!

Factor lab: added 2nd crystallizer, got 62 iron from that batch of 24 ore.  Found 11 tin ore in various tunnels with the guys (and Rutt called me about some unbreakable block -- iridium!) so, factoring that now ... 17 gravel (23:11) - 30 reduced chunks (23:28) -> 45 crystals (01:00), that's over 4X the original 11 ore.  17 free clay in furnace (from mixer).  While waiting, quick biomass run, grab chainsaw and chop one giant fir tree: 26 logs, 105 leaves (13 plantballs), 24 spare saplings.  Testing, yes the chainsaw is the same speed on leaves as the shears.  Biomass tank at 36K+, grab 16.  MFSU at 9.4M.  Run 64 soul sand.  Run to nether house, out of netherrack out there, time for quick nether tunnel run.  Stash my hoard of stone/tank materials.

23:51 - made it back from nether safely, always an anxious time down there.  But I stay underground, blast out tunnels with mining laser, poke out every now and then to look for fortresses, nothing.  Hardly heard a creature the whole time.  Lava tank full at 1,024K; grabbed 110 lava cans for my new tank in town.  7x64 netherrack.  Some huge ore deposits, not sure which ones are safe to mine until I see them drop a dust, others I use mining laser only.  Ore blocks: 30 sphalerite, 23 pyrite, 2 nether Ag, 4 nether RS, 4 nether coal.  Dusts: 1 yellow garnet, 12 Zn, 64+44 sphalerite, 72 pyrite.  Okay, 64 netherrack in magma crucible (rest in new upstairs chest), MFSU at 9.3M.  Might as well split most of this ore dust while I have an overabundance of energy.  Hmm, pyrite ore in macerator gives 5 pyrite dust, pulverizer gives 4 dust + 10% chance of iron.  Since every 3 dusts gives 1 Fe: + 2 S: in IndElect, seems like the macerator is the better deal for once.  All pyrite from this run -> 61 Fe dust + 61+58 S dust.  Start on sphalerite: total 114 Zn: + 114 S:.   Take sulfur dust to barrels under ore lab.  Get 61 lava cans from deep tank - 130b left in there.

00:08 - Railcraft lab: 64 coal coke done, 22 steel done.  New "Town Lava Tank": add liquid transposer with sterling engine (doesn't take much power to run these), start pumping lava cans into tank.  It's a start anyway.  Biomass tank 30K.

00:24 - MFSU down to 8M, but I've been hitting it hard running all those ores.  Good.  It will refill soon enough.  throw in 4 cans of oil, which came from Centrifuging a stack of netherrack.  Town lava tank at 96 of 576b.

Well, I promised that with my next full stack of iron I would start making a hall of blueprints under the IC2 lab.  grab 3 stacks of planks from sawmill, throw in automat & make 14 autocrafting tables.  00:37 - town lava tank 137b.  00:53 - connect 2nd floors of IC2 lab and center lab, way more space now, and a future combined 3rd floor will be quite the tower of power!  Town lava tank at 171b, done transferring lava for now.  Do blueprint for compressor, extractor, macerator, recycler.  Make first 32 brass, 10 electronic circuits.  Add blueprint for conveyor module.  Make automatic wiremill -- it should increase the yield of copper, gold, tin wire by 50% - works like a charm, each one copper produces 3 copper wire (instead of 3 Cu making 6 wire, I now get 9).  01:28 - MFSU back up to 9M.  make electric craftingtable, main reason was for packaging mode (2x2, 3x3) and ore dictionary mode (translate all ores into IC2 versions), it's a bit slow, only seems to produce one unit at a time, will need to pump out the output to make it worth using.  For ore conversions, the Forge Lexicon is way easier, and does whole stacks at once.

Eyes are tired, will add blueprints for all the major generators tomorrow.

Lunch: factor some ores in background: 20 copper = 27 gravel -> 34 chunks -> 55 crystals, 20 iron  = 29 gravel -> 46 chunks (already over 2X) -> 77 crystals.  40 clay ready.  Sorry, I just like statistics, to see if the processes are worth doing.  under IC2 lab, embed autocrafters in wall & floor, add recipes for generators: regular, geothermal, thermal, diesel, semifluid.  Kinda neat just walking across the floor and having the recipe I need underfoot, partly stocked with aluminum or whatever, for many of them I just have to add a generator or machine block and one or two other bits and I have a new item.

5pm - Biomass tank 52K, after refilling biogas engines.  MFSU at 9.5M.  hcek, 32 levels to spend, run to town to enchant a diamond pickaxe, 26 levels gave just Fortune II.  For some blocks that would give about as good results as silk touching and processing the ore, or at least only slightly less without all the hassle or power usage.  Railcraft lab, drop redstone energy cell in there, rewire with conduits, add extra rolling machine for making powered rail right now.

After Defiance and Warehouse 13 ... quick chat with Rutt.  Then dig basement under Railcraft Lab, build Rock Crusher.  Study its recipes.  It really doesn't have any recipes not equalled by other machines, except the rare chance of extracting stuff from gravel and maybe some of its block recycling.  A bit of a waste of 12 diamonds and 27 steel, but there it is for completeness.

Then, off to IC2 lab to build Chemical Reactor.  This one only has 11 recipes, but they're pretty important power boosters.  Then a Canning Machine, but it doesn't seem to work (at least not with the Calcite -> CaCO3 recipe).  So, add a conveyor module for Automatic Canning Machine, works fine ... but no clickable area to view its recipes.  Run 10 iron ore + 10 CaCO3 cells in IndBlast -- straight to 30 refined iron as promised, empty cans returned.  made some sulfuric acid cells, replace the 2 redstone in the middle of RE Battery recipe with lead dust and H2SO4 cells and you get 2 batteries each time.  A bit pricy but saves on tin.

Quick nether run to Base 3, guess my tunnels are going in circles, I ended up over Chris's new nether fort.  Fought giant magma cube (and babies), sword pretty much gone, get outta there.  Mostly just reading recipes tonight.  No real gameplay.  Factor 30 iron ore ... 43 gravel -> 62 chunks -> 45+48 crystals.
