Quickhaven logs 5/1 to 5/3

Lunch - mining run, fairly slim pickins (aside from 7 gold).  Move Altars of Light from wiz tower to right outside the doors of my HQ - tired of running over there for that one item.  MFSU 10M.  Glowstone still in IndCent ... done now, 3 He cells + 4 Sn each -> plus 6 Sn -> 180k coolant cell, 2 of those plus 6 Sn plus Dense Copper Plate -> 360k Helium Coolant Cell (finally!).  Now ... mining laser!!  Whee, have to go try it out!

20 minute mining run under my village house at level 38, ore: 1 U, 39 coal, 25 Fe, 14 Cu, 26 Sn, 5 Sapphire.  Plus the usual shards, xy, amber, etc.

After Supernatural -- move the barrels from tunnel up to my HQ basement.  Try mining laser on those super-tall fir trees ... oops, it sets the leaves on fire!  First nether run with mining laser, go to Base Camp.  720b of lava in that lonely tank.  Shoot up some nether ores, pigmen don't care.  Good.  Came home with these ores: 5 nether iron, 4 nether coal, 1 nether lead, 3 nether silver, 32 sphalerite; other stuff: 1 yellow garnet, 7 Zn, 48 sphalerite, 2 pyrite.  Nether ores in Macerators don't give double normal ores anymore, now average 3 dusts; bleah, the Pulverizer does that and give bonus dusts from time to time.  Pulv my nether coal I got my first Thorium dust, the nether iron gave a nickel dust, etc. 

23:33 - harvest one giant fir tree with axe & shears, got 30 logs, 2x64+56 leaves, 25 saplings.  IC2 lab: MFSu at 10 million, 29 lava in thermal gen, 55 netherrack in magma crucible, redstone cell empty again (need a better way to pump that power up here).  Huh, compressor doesn't recognize the fir leaves, expected it to make compressed plants; oh well, made 23 plantballs the old-fashioned way.  Time it: 17 plantball in fermenter, done in 45 seconds, 9 cans of biomass; 23 saplings in 1:48, 19 cans of biomass.

00:19 - Altars of light are producing nothing in their new location.  Maybe because they're under an overhang?  Move them outside by IC2 lab.  Build a 720,000mB xy tank next to forestry lab, can now pump biomass out where the window used to be on 2nd floor, straight into a valve.  Oops.  When you ADD liquid from a can, it eats the cans!  The tankw as funny, it didn't work the 1st time, I figured it didn't recognize the marble roof.  Then it didn't liek sandstone?  No, it was probably the torch I left inside!  ha.  Working now.  Within about 10 minute, 3 of 4 altars gave glowstone.  00:31 - biomass at 57K.

01:07 - Quick exploratory run across desert to north, end up in rugged Rainforest biome; dug a quick safe house, quick mine, hit some caves.  Around backside, found a new waypoint "Marble Chasm", halfway through it hits the desert biome and turns into a sandstone cave, pretty neat.  Came home with 2 stacks of marble, 32 Cu ore, some other stuff.  Fun little romp.

01:26 - Quick run to the south.  Through Lush Redwoods and small Taiga to the Badlands.  Collect a batch of that cracked dirt, I remember some Centrifuge recipe about that.  Night coming, first little hillside I lasered into had a little cave pool.  And first tunnel I lasered down soon hit a cave full of snoring zombies and such.  Future trips.  Was tunnelling into a side passage ful of iron and coal when cable went out!  Guess that means I'm done.

After dinner - still night in wastelands, spend some time blasting out tunnels with laser.  Gobs of stuff.  Run home thru Taiga and Redwoods, across desert.  Thunderstorm, mobs all over.  Made it home, big haul!  Ores: 1 Ir, 6 Cu, 27 Fe, 3 quartz, 2 Monazit, 38 coal.  Huh, felt like more than that,  Also 55 cracked sand to play with.  Back at Quickhaven, all 4 altars had glowstone ready.  Recharging my gear in the rain.  Keep meaning to wall in this top area -- only the solar panels need to be exposed to the sun.

Hang on - Bob Newhart is on Big Bang Theory.  Quick half-hour mining run in Twilight, with laser.  Booty: Ores (5 Au, 35 coal, 2 cinnabar, 2 Ag, 2 galena, 36 Nik, 9 Al, 9 Fe, 4 sapphire, 4 diamond, 5 W).  4 diamond ore in Grinder -> 10 diamonds.  Score!  Nikolite ore in pulverizer -> 5 bonus diamond dust.  I haven't done any blutricity stuff yet, haven't used even one piece of nikolite.  All so redundant.  I'll have a barrel full when I do decide to use it, if ever.

Railcraft lab: 58 coal coke ready, 29 cans of creosote, add 64 coal.  We haven't had the urge to build any railways yet.  Made a few stacks of tracks.  Someday, run rail the whole length of that main tunnel to link all the villages!

Hmm, I may or may not have a Skype call tonight.  No beeping yet, guess not.  Make 3 apiaries (from the 3 impregnated casings I made last night), setup one behind railcraft lab where my little cactus farm is just outside the fence, add modest bee pair, see what they do out there.

Oops, missed the call, it wasn't Skype, don't know why they never called.  Anyway ... 10pm - MFSU at 8M, redstone cell recharged, cranking out lava again.  Quick tree harvest: fir = 25 logs, 64+59 leaves, 28 saplings; 9 rubber trees: 48 wood, 45 drops, 4 spare saplings.  40 sugar cane.  Biomass away!  IC2 lab: 16 cracked sand in IndCent will fill a fuel can with 25k EU, plus 8 saltpeter dust on the side, odd power source.  Interesting experiment: I tried moving the laser + assembly table to a redstone conduit, but it only pulls 8 MJ/t that way, barely a black laser beam with no power ... return it all to beneath the IC2 lab, add a 2nd laser.  Since energy is renewable, iron + redstone = iron chipset + red pipe wire = Iron AND gate is cheap substitute for electronic circuits in most GregTech stuff (machine parts, conveyor modules, machine casings, lapotron xtals, etc.  But at 60,000 MJ per pop?  Oh well, I don't know the point of all those gates I suppose.  To control flow of things in pipes, sure.  But I'm trying to limit having thousands of pipes in town, the lag is already bad enough.  Bah, way too much power for these.

23:22 - IC2 lab: MFSU at 7.4M, has been a while without lava, while powering assembly table, IndCent, macerator, etc.  Drop in 20 H Cells, grab 40 lava cans from stash.  Finish ceiling above and around the MFSU and generators, solar panels now on roof, redo basement floor.  Come down, 22 carbon plate done.

Center Lab: take out sawmill, put in Thermionic Fabricator, make 1st batches of tubes.  Drop off 18 plantballs -- biomass tank at 114K - then 64 spare saplings.

23:40 - feed the Altars again, very productive, I now have 26 glowstone blocks stashed in Personal Safe, 15 more in IC2 lab.  23:56 - 3 of 4 altars have glowstone again.  Biomass tank 163K.  00:01 - 2 more altars ready.  Run to lava tank, grab 57 cans.  MFSU at 7.3M.  Not sure what the big drain is.  I haven't been running much of anything since turning off the lasers over the assembly table.  Check the energy links: liquid lab not drawing power.  Center Lab pulling 15 EU/t (nothing running - must be the Thermionic Fabricator keeping molten glass ready?  Run recipes, still glass in the molten box, fine just smash the thing, power drops to 0).  Make a chainsaw, go whack some trees - it stays charged from my lithium batpack.  Run home at nightfall.  00:22 - 4 of 4 altars ready again.  Macerate a few glowstone to make a batch of lumar lamps.  00:35 - 4 of 4 altars ready again!

Built a new little sawmill next to ore lab, connect to the redstone conduits in that building.  Not much space, only 3x9 inside, but it does the trick for now.

Lunch mission - make miner's backpack, do tunnel dig past wiz tower, most of the way to Rainforest and Marble Chasm waypoints.  Goodies: 57 marble, ores: 41 coal, 15 Al, 20 Cu, 18 Fe.  Tunnel 150 blocks the other way, toward teh Wastelands that I forgot to set a waypoint for ... ran outta torches.  Ores: 8 Fe, 33 coal, 18 Al, 19 Cu, 2 quartz, 1 U.  Another run, keep going, ended up intersecting one of my tunnels from the Lush Redwoods hole-in-the-wall, 315 blocks from home.  Ores: 17 Cu, 27 coal, 4 Fe, 11 Al.  Most of these tunnels are at depths of 55 to 57, seems like an optimal depth for finding these less rare (but in-demand) ores.  No tin though?  That must be deeper down?

After dinner - waiting for conference call again.  Okay, try to upgrade my netherrack power plant.  Replace the redstone energy cell which I have to keep refilling (at a huge cost of 2.5 EU per MJ) with two biogas engines (5 MJ/t each) fed by biomass from a Liquid Transposer.  Small amount of power to get transposer to empty biomass cans AND return the empty cans.  Huge supply of biomass right across the street.  Anyway, looks like one netherrack melts every 40 seconds or so.  Each 2 buckets of biomass (regular power value 16k EU) seems to melt 6 netherrack to lava for a total power of 6x30k EU.  Biomass tank at 85K.  Oddly as the lava pumps in the thermal generators goes way above its usual 1,000 mB limit, as high as 1,750.  Let's time it.  A bucket of biomass puts out 5 MJ/t for 10,000 ticks (50,000 MJ total), and each unit of netherrack melts with 12,000 MJ.  So each bucket worth 8k EU produces 4.2 lava, 126k EU total.  MFSU at 9.7M, siphon off 1 million into a lapotron xtal for additional storage.

After the call - 10:30 to 11:30pm, long tunnel & mine expedition.  Turns out where I thought I came out at Lush Redwoods was actually my Wastelands cave.  Run around, harvest some cracked dirt (2x64+14).  Tunnel down to level 28, about 150 blocks back, and back up to main tunnel.  Cross a few caves.  Ores:1 Ag, 17 Fe, 34 Cu, 40 Al, 2 U, 4 Monazit, 5 cinnabar, 6 Pb, 6 Au, 12 Sn.  Misc shards & xy & stones.

Created a crafty turtle (label "crafty1"), typed in my coalball program and put it over the compressor.  Funny, if you Ctrl (menu pops up) then Ctrl-V you can paste one line of code into the window.  Sometimes faster to type the lines, but better than nothing.  Saw one comment that you can format your whole program as one line, paste it, then go and put the line breaks back in.  Yuck.

MFSU at 9.2M, add 64 netherrack.  Thermal generator showed over 4,000mB of lava - I thought its limit was 1,000.  Still churning out power.  Biogas engines both still full, pipes full of biomass, transposer down to 1/2 a bucket.  Good output though.  23:38 start on my factorization Mixer.  Need 4 coils (32 Pb, 4 clay blocks).  Ran 10 Pb ore, used it up.  Drop 18 Ag ore in slag furnace upstairs, got 20 Pb, 18 Ag.  Ran 64+ Al ore in induction furnace hoping for rich slag to maximize my tin.  Got a few.  Added barrels in ore lab basement last night for overflow of common items (coal, redstone, aluminum blobs, etc).  Cook 64 iron -- I promise, one of these next batches of iron I will start on a hall of recipes under IC2 lab -- basic machines & generators.  5 Fe = Fan, 4 coils + magnet + 2 Pb + 2 Fe = motor; fan over motor over cauldron (7 Fe) plus 2 water bucket = mixer.  Done.  Nice, it left behind empty  buckets, saving me 6 iron.  Well, I got 4 rich slag, so 12 Sn ore gives me 28 ingots.

Now, setting up the mixer is a real bugger.  It needs a diamond pipe to output the sludge, metals and empty buckets to chest, slag furnace, and Liquid Transposer respectively.  Liquid Transposer needs a power source and endless water source, preferably an Aqueous Accumulator in a 2x2 water pool.  Lotta work.  Planning to set this all up on the roof one of these days.  Why not now?  Added a 2x2 pool to roof, over one of the tiny windows, kinda cute from beneath.  Made 3 machine frames (1 Au, 4 Fe, 4 glass each), 1 penumatic servo, 2 RR coils; got my 2 empty buckets from making that rooftop pool, need one for each machine here: Aqueous Accumulator done & setup in rooftop pool; Liquid Transposer setup, powering up, pipes done.  Funny bit here: I was working on roof, and an Enderman came up to the side of the building, started shrieking (audio clip stuck in a loop) and humping the wall.  I leaned over the edge and dropped a heap of gravel on him -- he suffocated nicely.  No reward but it felt good.  Hate those guys.  then a skeleton sidled up to the fence and took pot shots at me, but I had plenty of pipes to hide behind -- he burned up when the sun rose.

Now, to run one of each type of ore so I can tell the diamond pipes what goes where.  Duh, simpler than that.  Buckets go out the white pipe, sludge and clay out the blue.  Everything else into the slag furnace, done.  Turn on the redstone engine, done.  Once in a while I will have to recharge the transposer, otherwise it's self-contained, empty buckets in, full buckets out and back into the top of the mixer.  The energy bridge equates pretty much 1 charge = 1 EU, so these are pretty mellow machines to use, though since they're fairly slow they probably still hog power overall.  Test: 6 gold ore = 9 dirty gravel = 15 reduced chunks, into crystallizer: 7 (01:00) + 8 (01:30) +  crystalline gold.  Add 2 gold pipes to speed buckets along, now the bucket returns to mixer right before the next one gets used up.

Checked the Mixer recipes, it only cleans ores now.  No more sludge + dirt + water = clayball recipe, just smelt it into clayballs directly.  Good, another source of clay.  In that case, replaced the sludge chest with a furnace, cook em.  10 lead ore -> oops, Grinder doesn't do lead ore, it turns Ag ore into Galena gravel (neat trick!).  So, run 24 iron ore (00:45) -> 32 dirty gravel (00:51) -> 42 reduced chunks (01:03).  44 clayballs, enough for another lithium battery over at the Industrial electrolyzer.

MFSU at 10 million.  Should probably drain off another million.  Out of netherrack, but 9500mB of lava in magma crucible, thermal generator has 10,000mB of lava plus 40 cans.  Biogas engines down to 4 buckets each.  Drop off 28 cans of creosote, 16 cans of biomass in engines, 45 netherrack.  Drain 2 million into new lapotron xtals.  I am thinking about building a few backup power supplies around town, fill a few MFSUs.  So many ways to make power now, I feel some separate articles and videos brewing.

01:13 - MFSU at 8.6M, thermal generator at 10B + 40 cans, 19 netherrack left in crucible (+ 9B of lava), biogas engines at 9B each.  That river of lava in the depths finally ran dry, the last batch of 64 cans was not replenished, 192 buckets left.  The pump left a heck of a hole, about 7 blocks deep and 20x15.  Randomly tunnel into walls with mining laser: ores: 6 diamond (grinder gives 13 diamonds), 6 Au, 6 green sapphire, 6 Fe, 6 ferrous, 2 galena, 11 nik, 10 RS) and more.  Grind the 6 Au ore: 9 dirty gravel (01:34) -> 14 reduced chunks (01:37) -> add to crystallizer.

IC2 lab, drop 64 netherrack upstairs, MFSU at 9.2M.  Run 32 cracked sand (IndCent) into 2 fuel cans.  Now have 55 glowstone blocks in storage here (+26 at HQ), plus a stock of cells (15 C, 14 Hg, 7 Li, 3 CH4, 14 Si, 12 Na) and 3 fully charged lapotrons.  Biomass tank at 58B after taking 16B upstairs.  Done for now.
