10/18 FTB Unleashed day 141
I worked on the road east to the desert, through the jungle. It goes 500 blocks, just have to cross a pond to the desert, where two lava pools are waiting, and I grabbed my first saguaro fruit ("edible or use as seeds"). My cactus shovel was almost useless, almost used up after 40 or 50 whacks, but it only took one cactus piece to repair it; I repaired my diamond pick on anvil for 14 levels, and my alumite pick repaired itself, my force sword could NOT be repaired on anvil or on force infuser (hmm). The lava in my Smeltery got used up; there are a variety of metals in there with nugget values. I read that you can pump out molten metals, I assume you can r-click to carry around cans of molten metals. I guess you can get nuggets out somehow as well.
I'm pretty well stocked up on fuels: 25 oil cans, 16 lava cans, 60 coal coke, 7 coal coke blocks (a nice concentrated way to stack em), 3 solar panels, 2 creaosote barrels (and about 30 buckets in the coke oven), about 200 coal in various chests, and for now I'm just collecting ethanol in cans instead of pumping it into those annoying glass tanks where I can't see the amount.
Darn, you need GREEN slime for water tank siding. I haven't seen any of those guys yet and the blue stuff is not accepted in the railcraft recipe.
I was planning a road from Safehouse #1 back to Temple Hill, and it got dark. I tried fighting the wisp but can't hit it with an arrow. So I dove into my first mine, came back with an armload. Ores: 37 Au, 7 redstone, 2 Al, 15 Sn, 65 Fe, 11 Ag, 3 Emerald, 54 coal, 7 Pb, 4 monazit, 4 lapis; and 5 oreberries. Wow. And there was a lava pool at the very bottom with gold and diamond overhead, in a vast cave -- I couldn't get to that ore yet but did make a loop around the high walls blocking off entrances.
I did dig a roadbed from Safehouse #1 back to Temple Hill; kinda fun calculating paths that won't hit trees or pits, and keep a gradual slope, and make the required stairs or slabs as needed to pave it for a smooth run.
-- later --
I figured out my "mixed metals in the smeltery" problem. Pretty wild that it can keep a stack of different molten metals in the pool. Weird chemistry! Anyway, I was stuck with 7 nuggets of Al Brass, so I added enough ore berries to make that an even ingot, and poured it out into an ingot cast. Then I could get to my 4 ingots of Alumite, and made 3 sword parts and a shovel head. I made an all-ardite sword and added lapis and obsidian for beheading. For fun, ya know.
Saturday night, guess I'll just go on a brain-dead roadbuilding trip. I have still not seen a single village in this world, so I have to build my own I guess. Will pack about 10 stacks of cobble, make a shovel or two, and see what I can do.I ran roads & tunnels out about 500 blocks west from Temple Hill, nothing but jungle forest jungle forest. Stayed mostly underground, set up a few drop chests along the way. Had some creepers drop in. Found my first maple tree, brought a few saplings back.
Ran along the South road, walled off some land around Safehouse #1 (I will be giving names to those settlements soon, probably starting with B for the 2nd one, C for the 3rd, etc). Night fell so I went digging below, came up with ores: 74 Fe, 2 Pb, 8 Cu, 1 Ag, 1 cinnabar, 74 coal, 5 monazit, 8 redstone, 3 Sn. 64+64+41 sand, some other items. From there I ran out to desert and built Safehouse #2, then ran a roadbed out even further, to about 800 blocks from home. Walled off a little overhang.
Heard zombies below ground, saw some collapsed-in sand, went down for a quick adventure. My decapitating sword has only given me one head out of the last 20 fights or so. Odd.
Back home, I got tired of my MJ machines running down, so I replaced a clockwork engine with a force engine, added 6 cans of liquid force (and 9 cans of oil for when that runs out), and 16 cans of water. Keeps my 2 pulverizers nearly full power and I think the fermenter downstairs is running a batch, and I used indeuction smelter for a bit as well. If this engine does not explode, it's my new favorite. It can be turned on and off, so if I leave it running it's my own fault.
Tinker's: at some point my cactus shovel broke, but it stayed in inventory marked "Broken"; I could still repair it with just one piece of cactus. Smeltery: I got tired of trying to balance out the leftover chunks and nuggets of metals, so I made ingots of the bottom 6 brass, then broke the controller and put it back. That resets it back to empty, no harm done, only a few dribbles lost. For now, I will just makes batches of ingots, and when I feel like making something new I can melt the exact ingots I need back down and cast them into whatever.
Last run of the night, I stuck my head into the Nether for the first time. Very pretty, some new blocks (tainted soil) with complementary colors; different colored trees (some upside down), giant mushrooms, etc. But on the freaky side there are some kind of ghostly creeper that seems to glow blue before exploding, though that might just be the color contrast. NO, we did NOT needs creepers (and spiders) down there. Yikes. Did a video of that run. I guess if you come back alive from a trip to the Nether, that's a success.
