10/17 FTB Unleashed - exploring, recipes, more
Expanded my oreberry cave. 18:44, harvest them, see how long it takes to grow. 19:00 - 5 oreberries ready. Spent the time in my Nether Portal mine, came up with: 29 force gems (!), 21 diamonds (one deposit was 11 blocks), 64+17 redstone, ores (3 Al, 3 Ag, 22 Au, 16 Fe, 3 cinnabar, 2 Pb), emerald, 9 lapis.
Well, I have plenty of goods to start make machines out of.
Odd recipe: sand + gravel + clay = grout. [SMELT] grout -> seared brick. Looks like this is what the multi-block Smeltery is made out of? Oreberries (19:22) 8 of 12 blocks produced berries.
Ran out exploring to east: just jungle then desert then forest, but hit a big cave at (524,179) on way back.
Next big cave to explore at (285,156). A fine set of rivers runs through the jungle and hills here, made it home right at sunset. Spoils: 7 quartz, 9 amber, 38 oak saplings, 44 logs (from bushwhacking thru the ungle with force mitts), ores (15 Cu, 69 Fe, 15 Sn), a minium shard, 7 shards, lots of seeds, 64 coal, 6 blaze powder, bees (modest pair, sorcerous pair, 2 comb), good load. Even left some items behind in a chest at that first cave. I'm tempted to blaze a road way out there, linking all the points of interest, but it just sounds like too much work right now.
Made my first minum stone. I still miss the EE2 gadgets, energy collectors, red matter furnace and all. Sucks that all they seem to have now (EE3) is this stone that transforms a few things.
Coke oven stopped producing because creosote tank filled up. Made 2 more round barrels, drained out 20 buckets. Oh look, those full barrels do stack. I added a generator to front roof of IC2 building, lined up next to the solar panels for extra power to the MFE; I tossed these two barrels in there. MFE has 501k EU. So it should be filled for a while. You know ... I like IC2 power so much better than Buildcraft power, you can generate it fewer ways but once it's done it can be stored easily and used when needed. For MJ power you have to go through the whole redstone energy cell mess (hardened glass, electrum, frame, molten redstone, yuck) before you can store any of it. Here I'm ready to start on an MFSU already. Drop anything into the machines below and they're powered up & ready to go. SO much easier.
--- break ---
Started some roads to East, through the cave, across the lake, up and around, lined up with my cleared path through jungle. Fought some enders, a few creeper surprises. At home, made a force sword (added Sharpness II with 2 force nuggets), then repaired my diamond pickaxe (Unbreaking II) by 2 diamonds on anvil for 13 levels. A bit expensive, but I'd like to keep it for a while.
Someone dropped a spoils bag: 2 oblivion frames (don't need em), 9 claws, a new force mitt (yay!) and a bronze sword. The oblivion frame is comically weird in NEI, made by adding "Essence or Unending Disregard" to a frame ... and what's that essence made of? Essence of a Shallow Grave (x2), Essence of Lost Time (x2), 4 wither skeleton skulls and a dragon egg. Boy, I'd like to disassamble this on an uncrafting table! Further weirdness: 4 soulful wax & 4 glass around a clock gives the Essence of Lost Time; and 4 soulful wax & 4 glass around a rotten flesh the Essence of a Shallow Grave; same around a rose gives Essence of False Life. Thaumic Bees are strange.
Well, now that I have lots of leather (since the induction furnace cane turn sugar + flesh into leather) I made a few picture frames for some of my buildings. Cute. I setup another Worktable, this one for pistons and engines; takes quite a bit of materials to set one up, I ended up making one of each engine: redstone, stirling, electrical and biogas so far. A few others still need to be done. Now that I've harvested over 50 cactus from my little patch, I have 20 pipe waterproof and can probably get started on my biomass->ethanol system. Also have plenty of glass for about 10 tanks to start with.
I set up a fermenter -> still -> tank system right under thermal expansion machines, running off same engines. Forgot the fermenters needed a source of water ... I manually dumped cans of fruit juice in there for now. Will have to rethink this setup, but at least I have one bucket of ethanol. Will probably rebuild this at the top of a hill with a railcraft water tank and railcraft iron tanks for biomass and ethanol. Like my old Twilight Forest power station in Quickhaven world. Of course, that setup had 3 fermenters powered by a biogas engine running biomass and 2 stills powered by a biogas engine running seed oil, and the point was to run the ethanol (biofuel at the time) into a bioelectric generator to produce EU and keep my MFE (which I never actually) full. Those railcraft iron tanks are a huge hassle to make (I miss the Xycraft multitanks), but at least they hold a lot and show the exact amount stored. These little glass tanks and dumb, and there's usually some leftover tiny amount flickering on the bottom that can't be picked up.
With no Power Converters mod, this is a pain. I'd rather generate EU and step it down to MJ on demand, but the only option for that is the Electrical Engine that blows up neighboring pipes if it doesn't have enough work to do. Anyway, storing barrels of ethanol is a lot easier than making redstone energy cells, though the configurable output of the energy cells is great. One ethanol barrel is worth 2 million MJ (5 MJ/t for 400,000 ticks) or 500k EU (10 EU/t), double duty! Way more than the redstone energy cell that can only hold 600k MJ.
Okay, gross, why is there liquid meat as a fuel -- a measly 1 MJ for 5000 ticks, but I guess if you're desperate? No NEI recipe found to make the stuff. Looks like it's from the MFR Slaughterhouse, which makes liquid meat and pink slime, that cane be turned into meat ingots by a Meat Packer. Or drop the pink slime bucket on the ground to make a pink slime (mob) which drops pink slime balls. That's a bit visceral.
Okay, time to smelt my cache of oreberries: 11 iron, 10 tin, 18 copper, 96 aluminum. Also smelting a stack of rubber for plastic, then 28 plastic sheets, to get started on MFR machines. Hmm, all the MFR recipes are more expensive now, oddly including TE redstone coils.
Hah, I was in my TE lab and blue drops were falling on me, look up thru glass to see blue slime on roof, step outside, chop chop, got 3 minium shards for free, and some edible goo.
Ended the night with a quick video: run to the Twilight Forest, try to sack a redcap goblin and get a maze map focus. No luck, but wow, I ran over the top of the hill to burrow into the other side, and the whole other side was ripped open by a chasm. It will take hours to clear that mess.
