10/11 FTB Unleashed - landscaping, exploring

Quick trip to secure the east end of town.  Added a gate in wall, beyond is about a 20x30 field before a tall cliff.  Two chasms below, so I dug down between them, fought through, and lit up the place, then strip mined the walls.  Ores: 12 Cu, 64+12 Fe, 13 Sn, 2 Al; 2 quartz, 3 amber, 26 coal, a few shards, and a spoils bag from a skeleton: 6 coal, 6 lapis, 2 tears, 7 force gems, force shard, iron helmet, oblivion frame.

I covered over half the little pond by my house ... still enough of a puddle for ender tots to drown in.  Moved sugar cane to coast.  Built a little road up over the hill to NW gate, added a small cobble building that will be my "food & berries storage".  Nice wall of berry bushes already.  Just got 4 raspberries, 2 blackberries, 2 blueberries, 14 maloberries and an essence berry.  I wonder how many varieties there are -- good ol Natura mod.  Cute: a wooden bowl plus any 3 berries = Berry Medley (a little bowl of berries), hopefully with a hunger bonus over the raw berries; and all 4 berries plus 2 bowls make 2 medleys.  I made 2 medleys, just have to get hungrier before testing them out.  Looks like it healed 3 or 3-1/2 hunger, no bonus, still a cute item.  These berries have no other uses I can find, just eat em or make a medley salad.  Maybe someday they can be turned into fruit juice in Squeezer.

This town site is really quite special.  There's about a 60x40 main drag between two seas, with a few small hills that give it a good flow.  To the south is a wide plain I am using for tree collecting.  To the west it's up over the hill, thru the gate and down to another plain about 50x30 for future buildings, and to the east I can go up aroun to the cliff tops which have about 50x30 flat top to overlooking towers. Plus a few floating spots of land overhead.  I took a few screen grabs.  Really primitive right now, but growing.

I added a sakura tree right at the edge of the chasm for color (pink) and it bloomed into a giant tree stratched all the way across and way up.  I also planted one on a tiny 1x1 floating piece of dirt, should be funny way up there.  Yup it sprouted.

Saw an ender tot way up on the hillside, stared at him, he snarled and teleported to me.  Whack whack, done with him  Two adults appeared, but I ducked inside my 2-high doorway so they couldn't reach me.  Seems like the summoned parents never teleport away.  Easy pickens if you have shelter.

Quick run to bottom of world mine with mining turtle: ores: 2 cinnabar, 25 Fe, 28 Ag, 1 ferrous, 1 Pb; 1 U, 10 S, 64+58 redstone & 45 coal.

Last experiment of this session: I made a force rod (force nugget + stick + forge ingot), planted 3 oak saplings, r=clicked them with force rod to turn them into force tree saplings, then the rod broke and became a force shard.  With bonemeal I got 3 force trees.  Used my force mitts on them, whack whack, 2 force saplings, 4 force logs, 2 force nuggets.  I will be putting my Force Lab there between those golden trees.  DartCraft mod, all fun so far.

Oops - I can't turn 2 force logs into 8 force sticks because some other mod put an oak barricade recipe in there.  Oh well, cheat myself some force sticks, make a new fully-charged force rod.

After dinner --

Explored some more, found swamp over another series of steep hills, no rubber trees obvious.  Deep run with mining turtle: 15 diamonds, 2 emeralds, 64+47 coal, some force shards, 64+64+60 redstone, ores: 3 cinnabar, 63 iron, 3 monazit, 3 Ag.  I have enough metals to build stuff now, enough coal to last a while.  Should start a barrl of redstone soon, I hardly ever use the stuff.  Made Induction Smelter, but sand is pretty rare around here, good for some alloys though.  Cooked up 30 bronze for casings for forestry tech.  Made 2 casings then a squeezer for liquid force for my DartCraft lab ... need more conductive pipes and engines topower it though.

Finally decided to follow main chasm down to its end ... then I saw a bright smudge on tiny map and tunneled over to another chasm, followed that one to both ends, had arrow fight with some skels otherwise quiet.  Ores: 13 Fe, 3 cinnabar, 17 Cu, 13 Sn, 7 Al, 2 monazit; 8 force gems, emerald, minium shard.  And two spoils bags: 1) 2 foce mitts, 4 wood, bread, 3 apples (dud), and 2) force mitt, 2 force gems, iron pick, wooden axe, 2 bread.  Moved all force stuff to force lab.  Kinda bored, not sure what to setup next -- I miss battle towers and weird ruins to explore, but I guess there's technology to play with now.

Funny, I was doing some work around the house and listening to some random Minecraft videos on youtube; Direwolf20 was great as always, but the other two I listened to were just droning on and on to imaginary audiences apologizing for being tired or not being able to post videos every day because they have to work.  I don't get it.  We're just playing a game, maybe trying to share some interesting bits.  This is not a career or a big money-making opportunity.

OTOH, everyone else's towns look better than mine.  I don't have time to build big wooden fortresses or line up 50 apiaries and spend hours whacking at trees looking for mutant saplings.  It's a survival thing, with the few hours available here & there.  I would still like to host a world or two on an outside server, so some friends can contribute.  It sucks building all this stuff and not being able to show anyone, except by video.

Let's see ... since my NW side (temple mountain) is haunted by those annoying wisps, I'm thinking of tunnelling thru the cliff on the S of town so I can escape out into the fields more easily.  I need gobs of sand for a coke oven, but that desert was about 500 blocks south.

Check, home base is at -20,+64; I ran a quick road and hit the desert at -30,+580 right near another silverwood tree.  Part overland, part with 3 tunnels, each blocked with fence gates.  Used the force claw to rip through the underbrush in a short jungle stretch.  Really nice to have the pocket crafter (clipboard) so I can stop and make and drop a chest when arms got full.  Came back with 64+64+40 sand, 36 clay and lots of goodies.  Even sheared a sheep, crafted a scoop and busted my first two beehives: mundane princess/drone/comb and sorcess princess/drone with parched comb.  After that half-hour build it was a quick 2-minute run back home.  I noted a few spots where I may go back and put a safe house with some berry bushes for future travels.

Making coke oven bricks in my little clipboard.  27 done.  Pause for a giant blue slime that was smacking me through the front gate.  I've pretty much been living off a diet of blue slime balls.  35 bricks done, time to find a spot and start making coal coke (and the new sugar coke and cactus coke).  There was actually a cozy spot right next to the Thermal Expansion lab, where the wall bends to follow the contours of the cliff a few blocks beyond.  I leveled a section, redid the cobble road, and built the coke oven.  I thought they were 3x3x4 and hollow, which would have needed 34 bricks.  But they are 3x3x3 hollow, which only needed 9+9+8 = 26.  SO I have some spare bricks for the next coke oven, somewhere down the line.  First 50 coal dropped inside.  Not sure what to do with the lame creosote oil if I don't plan to build railcraft road beds and have no semifluid generator to burn the stuff (GregTech), though admittedly it didn't give enough energy to ever be worth it.  Oh nice: creosote bottles now generate 12.5k EU at 10 EU/t in a generator, or 2.0 MJ/t for 10000 ticks in Biogas Engine.  It even has a generic Fuel recipe in NEI, so maybe it works in vanilla furnaces, too?  Yes.  I went out in a downpour, grabbed my first bottle and it worked.  Good cooperative work, modders!   Though the bottle does get consumed.

Oh, it looks like Natura berry bushes have a height limit of 3.  Still, you can make long rows of em and have endless food.  Another enjoyable addition.  Also, harvest wild barley, crafts directly into barley flour, cooks into bread.  Wheat is suppose to act the same way now.  NO more wasting 3 wheat per bread.
