10/13 FTB Unleashed - world is named: Axum
A quick build session: I extended the land out a bit over the water to square off the walls to the gate leading along the road to the north (desert). While there I dug up all the sand on the reclaimed patch and paved it over with dirt. Since I left some water blocks below, I built a new building for a future Liquids Lab -- planning an aqueous accumulator to tap the water below. I ran a quick bridge across the edge of the lake to the fun caves across the way, then walled off, lit up, and conquered those. Quite an expanse of space in there, which could have fortified lookouts in every direction.
Then I dug a quick tunnel about 8 blocks into the big cliff face and drilled straight up to the top and installed a ladder. I can see a big castle wall enclosing the wide flat top of that mesa, I'm guessing it's roughly 40x40 of usable space up there.
I whacked and replanted some trees with my force mitts -- great tool, it works on wood faster than an axe, takes whole armloads of leaves, does sand and dirt faster than a shovel, stone a little faster than a pick, and who knows what else. Otherwise, just a quick build and "run around" session.
... later ...
Okay, I got a name for my town. I wanted something that sounds like a crossroads. I thought of Tangier (close) or Gibraltar (maybe if there was a really big rock pointing out into the ocean) or Ix (which I will use for my first Nether town). The cashier at Stater Brothers was named Magalia, which was exotic enough it would make a good wizardy school. Finally, in the car on the way home: Axum. Done. A small ancient kingdom, largely forgotten.
I expanded my walls to the south, out to the edge overlooking the lowlands. Even that flat low area looks like good expansion land. Found a spoils bag from some undead that flamed out: stone axe, wooden axe, steel axe, wooden tap, bucket of liquid force, 3 obsidian.
It's day 72. My berry hoard is 64+25 blackberries, 64+49 blueberries, 4x64+7 maloberries, 59 raspberries, 3 essence berries. I will also start stacking my metal berries, they seem to grow much more slowly, but I'm not sure how slow, I keep forging them into metal nuggets even though they're kinda useless and I already have tons of ore.
Through a hole in the ground I saw a new, dark branch of my town chasm. Found a way in there, rained a few creepers, cleared it and lit it up, came home with about 75 ores.
Argh, so easily distracted! I went on a simple run for dandelions to make a Twilight Forest portal, found the flowers right next to some beehives, so I made a scoop and cracked open the hives: mundane comb, honey comb, meadows princess & drone and unusual princess & drone. Made a little 2x2 piece of one of the small ponds on the northern lowland and ZAP, I have a Twilight Portal.
Cross my fingers and hop into the portal. I came out on the twilight side in a swamp at the edge of a pond. There is mangrove not far away (yuck), and a big hill right next to me. I walled off a small area and built a standard 9x9 hut, then explored a ruin about 20 blocks away. I used my force mitts to harvest a bunch of wood, including some rubber trees. Then back my little homestead I heard a cackling sound. That goblin laugh. Sure enough, I turned around and dug a bit into that giant hill and it was a HOLLOW HILL. Biggest one I've ever seen, and just full of spiders and goblins and creepers. Normally I have to run around for an hour to find hollow hill, and here it is, so close to my portal that the place will always be swarming with mobs. Guess that's a big battle project for another day, and a source of endless ores and goodies. Funny.
