Quickhaven log 5/29 to 5/31 - more 1.1.1 changes
5/29
After dinner, 18:30 - AESU at 62 million, hard to believe it may soon be full. 19:00 - Ran a batch of 4 autarchic gates and 4 iron chipsets on assembly table while (carefully!) chipping away at the ice cave under my city. Got 64x2+19 ice blocks but hardly made a dent. Still, there's room for workspaces 3 levels deep, on level 51, 55 and 59. The problem I have, which got me drowned, was the glowstone blocks I dropped on the seafloor early on when I was trying to see what I was doing. Now, it melts the ice blocks around it and there's no safe way to chip through to it using ice only. I will need a stack of dirt or something to slowly replace the ice with as I get close. Note that my aqueous accumulator from my liquid lab comes out at about that same spot, so I have to leave a bit of water there. Added autarchic gate to the fermenter that outputs all my biomass, just got tired of watching that redstone engine pulse red in the corner of my eye. I hope these gates are less laggy, they should save some tiny amount of CPU by not animating. AESU at 65.6 million EU. I should probably run some energy-hungry industrial stuff soon. I heard a zombie moan and noticed I don't have my sapphire sword of ender slaying (Disjunction) anymore, AND I lost 36 levels in my plunge to the sea floor, almost back to level 1 (ooh). Biomass tank at 380b. While I enjoy finding oil and making fuel (biomass etc), I'm at a point where I really don't need it anytime soon.
19:34 - Iceman came by. Some banter about trade, I took 32 copper and 19 redstone ore over to his mailbox. MF Farm, 9x64 wool, 42 beef (took 21), 27 leather, 75 ind fertilizer, fed my cows 27 wheat.
20:38 - I helped Iceman setup a power bridge to run his MJ machines off his IC2 power line. LV power. tried explaining it the best I could, left him some conduits for future expansion. Crikey, back home, my AESU is at 80 million!
Scrabble break, then checked the status of some of my old game code and sites. Nothing's ever nearly complete enough. 23:12 - AESU at 85 million, mass fab has 64 UU Matter done, stopped. 23:40 - 24 more UU Matter, AESU still at 85 million. Chipping away at ice under town, time for some new floors I guess. Mass fab off.
00:40 - chatted with Rutt for a bit but he kept having Java errors and getting bumped. Finished the upper deck of my city, filled in with sand all the way out to seawall, put cobble walls all around, secured, moved gates, planted torches. Looked for new recipes, saw new blocks (probably from MineFactory): glowstone, ice, snow, lapis, amber and obsidian blocks. Made 40 glowstone blocks, they put out good light without being all speckly like the original glowstone. I put them in from of most of my doors (a glowing doormat) and at some road intersections; nice upbeat feel around them. Weird: I guess I managed to rescue my Wand of Cooling when I drowned, just opened my personal safe and my back-up wand was still in there, along with the one in my hand, those are the only two I ever made.
The GregTech file cabinet (and other 3 variants) DO seem to hold items, if you right-click em with items in hand. They give no indication what items are in there, though. You can get them back out by clicking. Preparing for next Multifarm, made 36 tin electron tubes (45 tin, 18 redstone). AESU at 96.8 million. Didn't think I could possibly fill that up, but it's just about there. Done for the night.

5/30 - Long day fighting computers in multiple languages (CF, AS3, JS). After Scrabble, headache, brief visit? AESU at 100 million. There should be an Achievement for THAT.
Slept off the night, made 104 fences in sawmill. Worked on expanding my arboretum area, mining turtle shaved down more of that sand hill I screwed up so badly a few weeks back. Also used turtle to clear some space around twilight portal house, for dirt for my tree garden. Used up all those fences -- I'm really planning a big area out there! Grabbed more coal. Railcraft lab: 62 coal coke done, put 26 in the multifarm. Finished wooden fence + gate around twilight portal house, while turtle is grabbing more dirt for tree garden. 00:08 - Finished blocking out a pretty huge area for tree garden, land grab of the month, all neatly fenced in with wooden fences. Rutt logged in and out and in and out ... still having connection problems. Hooked up mass fab to MV power again, running another batch of UU for future use. AESU didn't even notice, stayed solid at 100M. Major work in basement ice room. Started the sub-basement floor, expanded the basement floor with sandstone, glass viewers and glowstone bricks; sub-sub-basement floor will be ice at level 50. I guess Rutt got tired of crshing out; he hasn't been back in a few minutes.
Rutt said we have so much technology and nothing to do with it, which is a bit funny in his case, since he never needs more than a pulverizer and a furnace. OTOH, I'm close to the end of what I can build. I don't need a nuclear reactor. Don't need a fusion reactor, can't see a need to build 2 IDSUs with a billion EU each to beam power around the world. I was going to build some tesseracts and chunk loaders to pull in more oil, but don't need it with 100 million EU sitting here unused. Technically, I have yet to build some multiblock GregTech stuff: but only the industrial grinder looks truly useful; don't need his sawmill with the Thermal Expansion sawmills about 100th the cost; don't need that big distillation tower with all those advanced casings when I have so much fuel already stockpiled. I suppose I could work on automated production lines, but without a big project to work on, I can't know what my future needs will be. Sure, one more multifarm to produce a few different items. I could do some IC2 crop breeding, but don't really need any of those products either; except maybe some terrawart.
In midgame, UU matter was a real sticking point to get iridium for the high-tier machines. Yes, we changed the config to allow the mass fab to be built. I don't know how you're supposed to get past that hump without it. At first, it was a major drain to make even 5 UU. Now I can churn it out all day, which is good, I guess. If we stuck with the matter fabricator which requires 100x the power, then we would need much more high-powered industrial base, but we couldn't build that industry without the UU matter. I suppose I can start on a big pyramid in nether made of solid copper, or some frivolous project like that. I do want to recreate my underwater glass pyramid from the Miranda world right off the coast of my city, but as I've seen, it's super dangerous trying to build stuff underwater with unpredictable lag screwing with my maneuvering. If not for the lag, Twilight Forest offers some big adventures in various boss fights and mazes swarming with mobs. I guess it's time to find an End Portal. I still want to know if I can setup Mystcraft link books to get to the End and back to search for weird ores below ground without being forced to fight the dragon and all those silly enders.
I can start on some quantum armor. There are some mods I haven't really played with. No real use for rails with link books available, and even those would be moot if I could teleport to my waypoints like the interface says I should be able to. Steve's Carts was fun to tinker with on the last world, very pretty but laggy, and I don't see those gadgets doing anything I can't do with turtles for way less work. Heck, that reminds me I'm currently without my mining laser. That's a must if I ever run out of any ores or gems. I remember that it was a pain last time, all those helium cells ... ack, Connection Reset!
Hah. When I logged back in, a message said that a new Applied Energistics was available. Now THAT was a mod I meant to explore. That could keep me busy for a while. In case of lag it should be somewhere a bit removed from my main city, but this is where my power base is. There's still that empty 2-story 13x13 building just across from my AESU, the one that was going to be my Redpower lab before I decided not to use that mod this time around.
Focus on mining laser, drop 64 glowstone dust & 4 cells in IndCent. Will need some Ti, so drop 48 bauxite dust and heap of cells in IndElectro. That'll burn some EU! Not really, it's night and I'm down to 99.5M EU. Don't forget I have the mass fab running at MV in the background. Will need lots of Sn. Grabbed half a stack from stockpile. Ugh, these are long tiresome processes, 1250 seconds (20 minutes!) per unit for the glowstone. Electrolyzer is showing "Insufficient Energy Line" and eating my stuff. Shut off the mass fab, which is on that same line, 26 UU done anyway. Still not happy. Technically the centrifuge is on the LV transformer 2 blocks before the electrolyzer but they've never conflicted before. Might as well rebuild my chainsaw while waiting. 5 steel plate, RE battery and circuit. Done. That was easy. Only 1 e.circuit left, check out the new assembling table way of making them. Well, that's absurd, needs Al or RI plate plus 2 electrum plate + 40 sec for 2 basic circuits boards, then add 3 ins Cu wire and 80 more seconds (each!) for electronic circuits. Why do that when I can go with the original IC2 recipe (6 ICW, 2 RS, RI) in a Fabricator and get instant results, and cheaper? And 80 seconds per unit to make gears which can be done by hand in 2 seconds? Funky. 00:27 - got 1 helium cell and found 4 tp of Ti dust in chest, blast it and bend it for one Ti plate. Calling it a night.
##
After Merlin, 11pm. Last night while tryint to sleep I realized my gaffe with the AESU. Previously I had a MFSU sending out 512 EU/t to an MV transformer which downgraded it to MV. Which means I was never actually drawing any more than 128 EU/t total. To upgrade the amount of power I can draw, I should hook up 3 MV transformers and change the AESU output to 3x128 (384) EU/t. Though I should wait until the end of the next batch in the centrifuge before disconnecting the system and redoing it. I'm not sure exactly how the power is distributed, but if two lines were not being used, the full 392 would go to the 3rd line, but its MV transformer would safely reduce it to 128. Anyway, MV transformers are cheap, just two 2xins gold wire and a machine block. I had one stashed in chest upstairs, made 2 more. Oops, broke one with a pickaxe and it dropped just a machine block. Fixed, grabbed my electric wrench in case they have to be tweaked again.
Boy, I don't rmember these helium cells taking 20 minutes each. But yeah that's the only recipe, seeing how I have no endstone dust to play with. Almost done with cell #2. Darn double-click bug. That time I placed two MV transformers -- used my electric wrench (in lossless mode) on one, and got ... nothing?? Argh, off to ore lab for some more iron for a new machine block. Rewired: AESU goes into 3 MV transformers: left goes to blast furnace and liquid lab; right goes to electrolyzer, new LV line down to IC2 lab, mass fab then out to city grid (that will have to be optimized later); center goes down to LV transformer to main IC2 lab. I shoudl be able to turn up the output on the AESU. No line can receive more than MV, so it should be safe! Oh yeah, except for that gold wire running from AESU to the transformer cluster - THAT blew up in my face, no harm done. Made 12 glass fiber, hooked it up. Crank up output to 384 EU/t, each MV line should now be getting the full 128 EU/t safely, in any combination. Electrolyzer started right up again, gave me those 2 tp of Ti dust I needed, but might as well let the batch finish before running to the blast furnace to make ingots. Put 32 glow dust into Centrifuge. All working fine now. Serious logistics though. I'd like to have the mass fab on one dedicated MV line, maybe the electrolyzer and new row of machines on another, and keep the town power grid a separate output. I'd need a lot more space to block all of that out.
23:50 - Electrolyzer done, made 2 Ti dust from tiny piles, dropped in ind blast furnace; also 2 tp left over, plus 32 Al dust, 20 H Cells (don't really need the power) and 6 compressed air cells which I just empty and put back in the machine. I just remembered there's a UU Matter recipe for Ti: a T-shaped pattern gives 2 Ti dust. Duh. Made 8 to spare that way. 00:08 - 60k helium #3 finished; converted them to 180k helium cell #1. Made a Cropmatron while waiting. Put another 32 glow dust in IndCent, should give me the 6 helium cells I need.
Yikes. Checked my multifarm. Ran out of dirt, clogged with saplings (3x64 red spruce leave 32 there, 30 fir, 32 apple oak, 5 redwood), chest is packed full of logs (9x64+16 spruce) and more saplings (2x64+24 red spruce, take em). Hands are full. Need to drop stuff around town. Drop off 4x64+56 saplings for biomass. Put 15 coal in multifarm. Back to IC2 lab, make a batbox. Grab my two oldest cheapest solars from roof, install 2 solars -> batbox -> cropmatron in my IC2 crop sector. Harvest my rubber trees.
IC2 lab, I was thinking of making a batch of overclockers for my machines, but those are way more expensive than I remember - now three 10k coolant cells (water cell + 4 tin), 2 ICw and EC. Each. Blah. I could do the tier 2 versions of those basic IC2 machines, I suppose. I haven't used them in months, even in the last world (Santa Fe) I don't think I ever built them. 00:44 - 2 more 60k helium cells done, waiting on the last one. Railcraft lab: 47 coal coke done, coke oven full of creosote again (take out 32 cans); 21 steel done, add 24 coke and 16 iron for next batch.
Grammatical note: Yes, I keep flipping between present tense and past tense. Sometimes I'm recounting what I've BEEN doing, and sometimes I pause the game and chat about what I AM doing. I know it's sloppy. It just sounds bizarre when I try to force it all into one tense or the other.
Made a lithium battery (for my mining laser) and semifluid generator (I probably could have use that to power the Cropmatron) (if I ever get around to using that thing!), just getting stacks of creosote cans, should probably burn it right on the roof of the railcraft lab, into an MFE to contribute to the power grid.
01:05 - last helium cell done, byproduct is 48 redstone and 48 gold dust, not bad for leftovers. Make 60k helium cell, then 3 of those + 6 tin = 180k cell. Plus other 180k cell, 6 more tin and a copper plate in the middle = my long-awaited 360k helium coolant cell. Oops, it's still dense copper plate, which is 8 copper plate in compressor. Argh. Throw 32 copper in bender, 32 in the wiremill, for future use. 01:09 - mining laser! Throw a heap of marble in macerator, I plan to centrifuge it for magnesium and calcite; if redpower is not updated, all marble in storage in the world could crash us down the line, so screw it, ditch it all for now, can always mine more a few months from now.
01:30 - went for a little joyride with my mining laser (old buddy), took tunnels to oil well (41 cans full), ran across the ice and through the mountain to the autumn woods. Made a quick cave with gate for safety, then went out wandering. Saw a strange pinkish smear on radar, ran to it and found ... red rocks biome! Woo hoo, I've never seen that before. Made another quick gated cave at (+870,+719). Night fell. Set waypoint and start working on tunnel back to home base. Hit water still 175m from glacier hut, seems to be daytime up top so I went back, blasted a stairway up to top of redrocks, explored for a bit. Really desolate but pretty! Getting dark, finish this tunnel and get home with my goodies. 02:02 - hooked up with my main tunnel 388m from Quickhaven, ran home. Need to remake my backpacks, while they're a little bit annoying when they grab stuff I don't want to put in them, they sure do help a guy carry a lot more! Found: 70 red cobble, 21 red rock, 10 brown grass, 6 short brown grass (I'm collecting every known type of plant, grass, flower and tree for my garden), ores (2 Al, 16 Fe, 14 Cu, 8 coal) plus 5 quartz, 16 xy. Those red rocks are just crying out for a small settlement someday.
Town oil tank at 367b, biomass 452b, lava tank full, AESU at 100 million. Grind more marble, got 9 Mg: and 63 Calcite:. Call it a night.

Looked for new recipes, saw new blocks (probably from MineFactory): glowstone, ice, snow, lapis, amber and obsidian blocks. Made 40 glowstone blocks, they put out good light without being all speckly like the original glowstone.
