Quickhaven 6/8 = net a ghast, villager rampage
6/8
Tried a few different things. Made my first soul shards - by cooking a diamond in the Soul Forge using 8 corrupted essence. This makes 3 shards. I kept them on my hot bar and fought a skeleton and an angry zombie -- so I now have a shard attuned for skeleton souls and one for angry zombie souls. I made a vile sword and went to the village to enchant it ... got a bunch of enchantments (Disjunction I, Knockback 1< Fire Aspect I) but not the Soul Stealer enchant that I needed. According to the wikis, each level of soul stealer will add one to the soul shard for each mob killed, so a Soul Stealer III should give me 4 souls for each mob I kill. But first I need that exact enchantment.
So I finally built an Auto-Enchanter {Minefactory mod} across the hall from my Grinder. Worked like a charm. I grabbed the semifluid generator from the roof of the railcraft lab, put it next to the auto-enchanter, will a tank of mob essence on the otehr side, and put a book in the top slot. This is fairly quick for level 20, but gets realllly slow above level 22. I got some enchanted books: Vorpal I, Projectile Protection IV, then two in a row with Soul Stealer III. I took my already-enchanted vile sword up to Rutt's anvil, added a book with Soul Stealer III and for 11 levels I got a vile sword with all 4 enchantments. Nice!
Yup, worked like a charm. I nailed one skeleton just outside the town walls, now have 5 skeleton souls. Clobbered a spider because I wanted to get a shard attuned to spiders (because I know where there's a spawner), got 4 spider souls. I don't have a real goal here, just seeing how things work. I should be able to create spawners using shards, once I get 64 souls (or r-click a spawner). Whether I can setup those spawners in my grinder room is hard to say -- I would have an endless stream of goods if I keep the grinder fully charged around the clock, but it might get laggy, and I've had occasional mobs spawn in my hallway and on the floor below where I wanted them to spawn (especially skeletons for some reason). I could technically disable these soul shard spawners with torches, but I'd have to get into the room, add a torch and leave, and that torch might interfere with my Minefactory Auto-spawner creating the mobs I really need from my safari net catches.
Major score! I made 6 single-use safari nets and a safari net launcher (new to Ultimate 1.1.1), went down to nether. I stood at the bottom of the stairwell to the Man Castle until a ghast came directly overhead, nailed it! The ghast vanished, filled safari net dropped back down. I grabbed it, and oddly it seemed to transfer the ghast to my regular safari net. I booklinked back to my spawner/grinder, plugged in the ghast DNA, and expanded my room to have one section right above the autos-spawner that's 5x5 x 6 high. It now spawns ghasts and grinds them! Really scary from below, the tentacles hang down and fill the engine room under the grinders. From the main hallway, the thing fills the room and when it keels over it sticks through the walls. Crazy laggy, locks up for 2-3 seconds every tme one spawns, but heck, I got 9 ghast tears and some gunpowder, then went back to mama cubes to replenish the mob essence supply. Will try to figure out a way to hook the mob droppings to the row of barrels across the hall (probably a router beneath them) and split the mob essence between the auto-spawner tank and the auto-enchanter tank. Made 4 more safari nets. I'm now ready to go collect more DNA. Especially curious if I can now pick up a villager with them: the wiki said that "Spawn Exact Copy" Mode will even copy the villager trade data, so there must be a way to net them. Of course for them I'd have to be quick and safari net them out of the room as they spawn, study their trade, and put them in little nooks if they have a good trade, throw them back if not. That will be tough since they have to be netted from a distance. Hmm.
There are some badguys I'd really like to catch specimens of, especially the redcap goblin that drops the maze map focus, so I can make a goblin tinker table to repair all my half-broken old enchanted tools.
Okay, I booklinked to Auckland and figured out how to net a villager. You can't r-click them with the safari net, since that just pops up the trade interface. But I could stand back and shoot them with the safari net launcher. Again, it put the guy right in one of my generic safari nets, not one of the single-use ones. I brought him back home for experimentation ...
Later, around midnight. I tried making a Salamnder Eye, but was two blaze rods short. For some reaon my minium stone will no longer convert 2 blaze powder to a blaze rod, even though the recipe is still listed. The metadata number for my minium stone is different from what's shown in that recipe though. I wonder if it works at all. Anyway, I guess I can go to the Nether fortress and net a blaze. Ran another batch of ghasts, currently in grinder chest: 4 gold nuggets, 18 bones, 30 arrows, 104 magma cream, 10 strin, 10 ghast tears, 22 gunpowder, 14 spider eyes ... take items out & put in barrels. MF Farm: replaced wool chest with a barrel.
Trying to harvest villagers was friggin hysterical. First they spawned, then they tripped all over each other while I clicked them to see if there are any good deals. I couldn't launch the nets at them through the walls, had to cut a doorway, and then of course some ran out into the hallway, I could hear some going up and down ladders later on. I found 4 guys with good deals, netted them and dropped them into little cubby holes. Then the grinder wouldn't grind the mob of leftover villagers! Racking my brain, I figured it out. I went topside and netted a zombie. Had to spawn zombies to zombify the useless villagers, and then the grinder took care of them. Just nutty, goofy fun.
I redid the pipes, so now the grinders are connected directly to the spawner 9for mob essence) and mob essence tank, and the output from both grinders goes up overhead into a chest above my row of barrels: will put a router next to that chest, below the pipe, and everything should get put in the proper container.
Enchanted 2 more books: level 25 (fire aspect I, seems pretty weak), then level 22 (Charging I). Auto-enchanter works like a charm. I can go to an anvil and put any combination of these book spells onto the item of my choice. Very well coded.
Done for the night.
