FTBLite3 pining for GregTech

4/3 Pining for GregTech

I may have had a fever (for real) but for some reason I woke up this morning thinking, "I really miss GregTech and all those complex machines ... I wonder if that mod has been updated".  Sure enough they're on GregTech 5 (GregTech 6 sounds like it's being rebuilt from the ground up) with even more gadgets and ores and mad chemistry to fuss over.

I was trying to remember my "Santa Fe" world where I had those big GregTech machines on the roof.  Iceman, Rutt and I had fun building all that stuff.  I thought it was Feed the Beast Unleashed ... so I upgraded the FTB launcher, upgraded the modpack to 1.1.7, got a few mismatched block warnings.  Made a backup of that world.  I had called this world "gizmo!", turns out it's not the world I was thinking of, but it IS the world that has those cool force trees and force gems for alternate power.  I really liked that force mod, whatever it was.  Ooh, it also had the super-simple but clever "compressed cobblestone" blocks that got darker the more times you compressed them; good for some texture variety and for getting rid of gobs of cobble.  Was wondering about this world too.  Okay, the world is officially named "Axum" after it's largest town.

Fun solo world, I did about 40 videos in that series, worth doing a video revisit sometime.  But where did my Santa Fe world go??  Looking back at my old videos, it was FTB Ultimate pack, and the videos called the world Quickhaven after my main town.  Oddly, my FTB Ultimate saves folder is empty.

Darn, the only FTB with GregTech 5 in it is Resurrection, which has a stern warning about being unstable and possibly needing world resets at any time.  No thanks to that...

Oh hell, I will run FTB Resurrection anyway.  10-12 minutes to load, then it got stuck just trying to open the Controls page.  Had to force-close the program.  Glad I didn't waster time listing all those damn mods.

FINE.  Now trying FTB Lite 3.

Looks like a big bunch of mostly new things to screw around with.  That's what I like with MC.

Okay I ran video.  Said I wasn't going to do that again, but heck if something really fun happens, it's captured.

Great spawn point, in a forest at the edge of a lake, with rubber trees.  Within about an hour I had a lair dug into a hillside, then mined a bit, roamed the world for half a day in each direction and broke grass for seeds.  Started a little farm surrounded by cobble walls, added two starter buildings, and boom, it looks like a place to hang out.  Very few mobs spotted.  I found some fun recipes for storage units: from Storage Cabinets and Extra Utilities.
