FTB Ultimate: My stuff ... and Hypno
3/17/2022 FTB Ultimate
I had a long string of projects in my head at work. I got a few of them done:
- Over at the old biomass IC2 farm, I reorganized the pipes and conduits so it's cleaner and more sensible. It used to process the melons and pumpkins into seeds and drop everything into the bio reactor, but that was way past overflowing. So now the pumpkins and melons go straight to a set of barrels, and the carrots, potatoes and dyes to their own set of barrels. I can stock up the bio reactor and turn it on when barrels start to get filled, and I can manually make seeds and put them into the squeezer, which I moved up to the surface right next to the big liquid tank of seed oil. I will try to remember to put a carpenter over there some day to make stuff that needs seed oil.
- IC2 crops check: I have 3 aurelia plants and one seed bag; two stickreed plants and 3 seed bags. I saw a seed bag for tulip the other day and only in the middle of the night realized that's not a standard flower in this world. I wonder what it drops??
- BIG project: on the plains past the main Bee Lab and Ender House, I setup a honeycomb of four hexagonal bee farms, each roughly 6 blocks on a side, which is big enough to pack a ring of 10 apiaries. I started with 7 hives of my ruby bees. I had 3 queens (not counting the one in the alveary which I should bring over and replace with something else). For the others I took marbled & forest princesses and added 10 ruby drones to each apiary. The drones should overpower the genes of the princesses and give me pure ruby queens in a few generations.
- I tried setting up fabricators next to the tree farm barrels to run the weird minium stone recipes to convert logs -> obsidian -> iron -> gold -> diamond, but the recipe worked once, then failed to come up on ANY crafting table, not even the expenseive GregTech electric crafting table, xy fabricator, not even my bare hands. Skip it for now.
Over in the Bee Lab ME network, just the drops: 12K honey, 110 prussian, 92 apple, 68 energy, 60 bleached, 54 citric, 51 seed, 50 alcoholic, 43 milk, 38 forest, 11 slate, 8 saffron, 8 intellect, 4 ashen, 4 azure, 2 ebony, 2 enchanting, 2 sepia, 2 lime, 1 maroon.
Just the dusts: 53 clay, 51 olivine, 51 emerald, 30 ruby, 27 Zn, 24 Sn, 21 Fe, 19 diamond, 16 ZnS, 15 invar, 15 Cu, 14 HgS, 14 sapphire, 14 green sapphire, 14 glowstone, 12 bronze, etc. Glowstone? That reminds me that I haven't checked the Nether bees in a while. Holy heck, all kinds of overflow thrown in my face. 3 stacks of simmering comb, all 4 hives were maxed out at 64 bees (embittered, demonic, fiendish, sinister), and in the chest: 64+29 glowstone 2x64 ash, 10 more stacks of simmering comb. And my new apiarist backpack picked up 4 more stacks of bees. I had 736 refractory wax.
Well, that was a good night's activity. I'll watch Hypno build some crazy things and call it a night.

3/18/2022 Hermitcraft commentary
Just some notes on the bizarre logic of those old Hermitcraft videos. I have been watching Hypnotizd run some old FTB Ultimate world before bed, to cool down at the end of the night. Everything they do in those series is so over the top.
Don't just build a tree multifarm, build two of them, maximum size, producing multiple barrels full of "!! 1024 x 64 !!" logs and sticks and mulch, fill a max-sized Railcraft iron tank (1.6 million mB) with biofuel, power two max-sized Railcraft steam boilers to power 25 industiral steam engines to make 200 MB/tick to power all the squezers, fermenters and stills to make even more stuff.
All that, even though the main base is an odd floating chunk of clutter over a lovely mesa biome, where about 30 solar panels and 100 thermal generators power the godawful inefficient GregTech matter fabricator which normally takes about an hour and 10 million EU to make 1 UU matter ... but somehow they had a barrel of 64x64 of that top-tier pink stuff. Through episodes 5 to 15 (roughly) he added one or two ultimate hybrid panels per episode. The tower of MFSUs leading up to the matter fab is colorful but ridiculous. And by now, in the main base, there is an AESU filled to a billion EU, and all the GregTech multiblocks very neatly tucked into the floor. Every visible setup has some underbelly of tunnels full of pipes and wires. There was a chest with about 8 stacks of each of the chipsets off of the laser assembly table, which is hours or AFK grinding.
He can't just do some bees, either. It was fun watching him start off as a total noob, not even knowing the basics of how the apiaries work. But by this point in the series he has designed these hexagonal cells where the straght sides are 12-blocks each, with a widely spaced grid of 34 apiaries in each cell, each cell devoted to a single bee species ... and as of last episode there were about 10 of these huge cells either setup or fully operational, again with the cellars (this time full of flowers) or pipes and barrels. Under each production line, the barrel of specialty combs, then a full barrel of generic combs and a full barrel of drones, then a void pipe so the rest of the overkill just goes away.
Various players on the server built mob grinders along the same plan: some 9x9 glass platform framed in what looks like nether brick, where water pushes the spawns down a narrow channel to hit 0 hp on a row of obsidian pipes. Clever and attractive, with a tier 5 soul shard cage held above the water. Again, barrel after barrel overflowing, then getting the hyperdimensional upgrade only to overflow again at that crazy 1024x64 limit. In which case, Hypno will just use a gravity gun to move the full barrel off to the side and add a new one to keep going. It was pretty funny when he was at the witch farm and asked what they would ever do with 1024 stacks of string or glass bottles? He showed an interesting exploit where you can get one soul into each of 7 shards and add them together on an anvil to get a tier 5 shard with only those 7 kills, not the 1024 souls it was meant to take.
Last night he made his first minium stone and a tier 5 pigman grinder, and talked about you can convert 4 gold blocks to a diamond block and 4 diamond blocks to a dragon egg and how GregTech had a crazy generator that sucked energy from dragon eggs, so that farm was really a dragon egg farm. (Also that the end bees want a dragon egg as their "flower".) I do like trying to setup every available type of power gen, just for the challenge. I'm not sure why my minium recipes don't work, will check the configs.
The videos are entertaining and full of good ideas, with both good and terrible design concepts. There are slick hallways with nice color schemes and all storage and technology very well organized, versus totall heaps of gadgets and tubes. But everything with them is just over the top, and I guess that's why we've watched them through hundreds of episodes over nearly a decade now.
