Fire Upstairs & Overgrown 2026: More Prefab Structures, Perfect Placement

260222 Overgrown 2026

Friday night, the apartment upstairs and diagonally across from us burned out and we had to evacuate the cats and laptop and come back later to see if our place was still there.  The damage was to that one unit only.  They sent 4 trucks and 3 police cars, later we saw a truck from animal control and found out that two dogs died up there.  No people were hurt, but it was extra stress after an extra stressful week at work.  So that was a thing.

We had about an hour and a half on saturday and an hour on sunday to explore and build.  We went back out to the faroff beach by the ocean monument base, where my notes said there were a lot of flamingos.  We brought the Exotic Birds encyclopedia and right-clicked on those birds until we found four of the five we needed for our pond back in Rustic.  We dropped those off at the flamingo pond but noticed our ducks and frogs got away.  We found the ducks.  The frogs were so small maybe we will see them again someday, maybe not.

Then I started building a duplicate of the 3-floor glass livestock tower from Brixton.  Two floors this time, vacuum chest right above the dirt on the second level, feeding down to a gold chest at the dead center of the first floor.  Since there were seven types of Animania peafowl and one from Exotic Birds, we made 8 sections split by hedges and loaded up the birds we had on hand.  I will go back and add a roof some other time.

Anne noticed that I was almost out of quartz, so we did a 20 minute flight through the Nether and got a few stacks.

This morning I wanted to see some of the Prefab structures I had never made before, so I tried to build the Ender Gateway and the Moderate House.  I figured the End one would use some of the stacks of blocks I brought back from the end, but no, it needed prismarine, which I just brought back from that ocean monument.  Trouble is, it also needed triple compressed stone and double compressed obsidian.  I flew around with a water bucket looking for some lava pools, and we couldn't find a single one!  When we don't want to see lava, it seems like there are pools all over the landscape.  Now that we need one, there were none to be found.

So we tried the Moderate House instead, which is made of 3 Starter Houses, which I am very familiar with.  So we made those on the mechanical crafters at Brixton and went to set one up on the wide empty fields outside MineColony.  Those empty spaces are why I thought the MineColonies mod could build its city there.  Anyway, I saw a spot in my head last night not far from the Plains Tower, and with no idea the dimensions of this new structure, the ghost preview put in almost exactly centered between the tower and my mycelium base.   And it was a pleasant surprise to see when choosing the preview, that there were actually 3 or 4 styles of house to choose from.  Wow.  Top-notch modding skills here.

Crafting the Starter Houses

We went with the Spruce House, and it filled the area nicely, with a farm on one side and a tree farm of about 2x6 trees behind it.  Two floors, high ceilings, about a dozen chests.  And the brick roof has an attic full of a scatter of logs and planks, obviously meant to be the clutter of junk that people throwin their attics in the real world.  But with Chisel, I can turn them into actual boxes and crates.  ;-)  Lots of room for future design and storage.  During the placement, there were checkboxes for Farm and Mineshaft.  I chose both.  I mentioned the farm.  The mineshaft was the usual ladder down to 12z with the chest at the bottom.  The minimap showed lava pools everywhere, but I mined a few stacks of blocks and there was no lava.  But we did breakthrough into a room with mossy stone floors.  And the room beyond that had a torch in it.

Being only about 50 blocks from the tower, we had intersected the dungeon below, the last floor from the bottom.  and the room after that one was a look down into the bottom Nether floor ... where Anne spotted a bunch of obsidian.  So between the Ore Excavation and my weird inventory duping, I got 78 obsidian.  Should be enough for the End building.

But now I want to see those other Moderate House designs.  The new one needs to be surrounded with our go-to hedges, and that whole area lit up properly as we push back the darkness even more.

1943: I hedged-off that whole area and walked around with the photometer (Inspirations mod) to look for dim spots where mobs could spawn -- the item turns red when it's dim.  All clear for now.  Camping on top of a tree for the night to see if any unwanted guests show up.

Looking at the ladder down from the new Spruce House, I saw some mossy stone in the wall of the shaft, and at 22y it comes out in one of those dungeon water rooms with the iron bars, near one of the black/white checkerboard rooms.  There is some weird creature down here that I have never seen before.  It looks like a potato with a toupee, takes a bite at me, then disappears with teleport particles.  It is fascinating how all the mods work so perfectly together to give a never-ending array of worldgen and encounter areas.

So, that ladder shaft is at -905 -2352, and if I get the right depth along the ladder, I should be able to connect to other dungeons rooms, and those tunnels I made last weekend.  I really should know this, having spent hours exploring these Rougelike Dungeons, but the levels are at: surface tower down to level one (50y), level two (40y), level three (30y), level four mossy/viney level (20y) and level five nether level at 10y.  Confirmed.

In relation to my ladder shaft, the Smelting room on level one lined so that, right between the two furnace stacks, I could dig a tunnel and hit the ladder dead-on.  It was just 5 blocks behind the wall.  So now there's a little platform to get directly from the new Spruce House to this furnace room ... which it now makes sense to develop into a real ore processing lab.  Fun with numbers!

On the next floor down, the ladder shaft lined up exactly behind the crafting table in the break room.  Only 5 blocks back again.  Boom, another way in and out, another room that is so easy to get to, it can be expanded for future use.

The next floor intersected with the ladder shaft about 10 block behind one of the skulls in the mausoleum.  It's hard to imagine placing that big Prefab house in a more perfect spot ... even without knowing it.

Tp'd back to Brixton, made 9 starter houses, merged them into 3 moderate houses.  And I dropped the obsidian into the compacting drawers in the Prefab lab, enough for one double compressed.  Dropped it in the crafter, poof, the Ender Gateway spawner.  I dropped those off in the chests at the Spruce House, and we will spawn them on the plains the next time Anne is available.  2041, taking a break.

here are some interesting bits:

"Aqua Base - This is a new structure which is designed to be placed underwater though it can be placed on normal land too. It is a very large building and allows a player to create multiple floors for their underwater base!"

"Ender Gateway - This is a great way to get to the end without having to find a stronghold. The player will have to gather a lot of materials to build this item, but it cannot be called "The End" if it was easy. There were some new blocks created for this building which are described below.

Phasic Block - This is a new block added for the Ender Gateway. This is normally a solid visible block but when the player right-clicks on it, the block will phase out over a second and disappear for 5 seconds before phasing back in over a second. This phasing out cascades to nearby Phasic Blocks. While the block is transparent it cannot be interacted with and the player can fall through it or walk through it. This is used as the door for the Ender Gateway. The block also responds to redstone signals where it will become transparent when receiving a redstone signal. This will also trigger nearby Phasic Blocks to become transparent.

Boundary Block - This is another new block added for the Ender Gateway. This is normally a transparent block (it will be solid and visible when in the inventory) when in the world. However, players can walk on it and cannot walk through it as it blocks all movement and players cannot interact with it when it's transparent. Pistons cannot move this block either. This block responds to redstone signals where it will become visible when receiving a redstone signal. When receiving a redstone signal it will also trigger nearby Boundary Blocks to become visible."

"Watch Tower -  This is a great structure for those that want to build small defensive structures or if you're out exploring and need a place to sleep and look around the area."

And finally: why the heck is there a bulldozer? "Bulldozer - This item is really expensive but really useful. You need 3 Diamond Pickaxes and 3 Shovels and you need to enchant it in an anvil with triple compressed stone. Once you do that you get a multi-use item (4 uses) which can clear a 16x16x16 area. The cool part of this is that ALL of the blocks in that area are dropped (not just lost) for you or your friends to gather. This of course respects protected blocks just like all of the other structures."

Back ... 2150.  It was bugging me that the trawl station I spent all that time crafting just sat next to the ship doing nothing.  The wiki said it need 4 blocks of water on every side but had a picture showing 8 blocks on every side.  I moved it out to the middle of that bay (squid pet go!), and 4 items showed up in the trawl crate.  It sounds like you can't open those crates without using a special sealer to close it again, so I pulled th crate out for now, and sure enough, fish are appearing in the slots.  Including an obsidian fish (??) from DungeonTactics.  Cool, we're in business now.  It's getting a fish about every 10 seconds.  I put the crate back.  Pulled the fish out of slot 1, which was putting it into fish-only mode.  With no item in that slot, it should be regular Minecraft fishing mode.  With a book it should go into librarian mode: disenchanting caught items (if you have books in there to use) and combining books.

I made two more trawl crates (chest + 2 reinforced twine, not too bad) but it looks like you can only have one active trawl crate in that top right slot.  20:04 now at 14 slots used.

20:23: 17 slots used.

I took a quick detour, looking for a roguelike dungeon on a flat area close to sea level, with the idea of completely excavating it up to the surface on every side.  I was able to clear the first floor and a half, jot down some coordinates, and uncover one end of the level one hallway from the surface using dynamite down to 55y, then ore excavating big sections.  There it is, exposed toe the sky.  Getting all the levels exposed would be even bigger of an archaeological project than when I uncovered a stronghold way back in vanilla 1.5.  Still, I could chip away at it, bit by bit.

20:27 - slots used, 20.  I brought it onto the ship and tried to place it down, it didn't seem to work.  Then maybe I sneak-clicked it and a chest dropped, but the chest has an item called "trawl crate (sealed) - slots ued: ??? (lost+found).  What the heck?  Plenty of fish in there, neatly stack, with some weird ones like enchanted swift fish.  I also (oddly) got 4 reinforced twine.  The "sealed trawl crate (lost+found)" could be placed down like a chest, and it was a standard MegaLoot/Patchwork/EnderIO loot selection.  2 epic mega loot cases: mega loot bauble ring (Resistance 1, Strength 2, Speed 1, Upgrades 6, Epic rarity) and wakizashi (sword, Epic rarity, 23 damage, 2228 durability, blinds enemy for 1 sec on hit, 30.92 DPS, Upgrades 6).

20:37 - new loot crate is empty, switched to book mode.  Done for the night.
