1.7.10 Fossils & Archaeology fail on load - SOLUTION
I am still playing Minecraft a few evenings a week, and hour or two here and there, but I'm months behind in posting the adventures and game logs here.
I wanted to do a quick post to explain how I solved an issue that was keeping an old world from loading. If you have a 1.7.10 modded world using the Fossils and Archaeology mod, and your world stopped working after August 2024, this might help you. The error I was getting was "Fatal errors were detected during the transition from CONSTRUCTING to PREINITIALIZATION." This was frustratingly vague, giving no clue about which actual mod was causing the issue. I tried to visit one of my worlds that loaded fine last summer and now it fails during startup. Anne & I put a lot of work into that world when I was hosting it on Scalacube for most of 2023. I didn't want to lose the whole thing.
With some online answers I was able to track it down to this:
It sounds like this mod, which is required by the Fossils and Archaeology mod, was referencing some file in a pastebin entry that had been deleted, and user Gegy was able to track it down and provide this patch years after the original developer moved on.
Fossils and Archaeology is still one of my favorite mods of all time. Here is a shot of our dinosaur museum from that world I was unable to open:
I added smart-aleck comments to many of them, and was able to amuse myself years later...I am still fascinated by how all the mods in Minecraft can work together so seamlessly, and new combinations of items and worldgen and experiences are still keeping me exploring after 12 years.
