Overgrown: Cavern dims, Nether biomes

 4/3/2021 Overgrown-1-1

I added a Prefab chicken coop to Brixton, which matches the brick theme very well.  Oddly, it's bigger than the standard blacksmith shop.  It's next to the sheep pen so one vacuum chest can get all drops.  Looking at the Prefab mod items, there's also a jail I've never seen and a massive Welcome Center that can't be crafted, only spawned.  Gotta see those.  And a new ski lodge mentioned on the wiki that would look good on the snowy plains outside Albertville.

I added a recipe so one coal and 8 cobble can generate one compressed stone.  Save a smelt.  Ran back to Prefab home, started cranking out more Prefab pieces.

Back down to the Cavern dimension, but somehow my waypoints in the abandoned mine left me inside solid rock.  So that doesn't seem to be where I left it.  It was a massive mine, tones of exposed wooden walkways.  I have no idea how it's not there now.  Anyway, 74% to aqua miner.  Hack hack.

88%, ranger zombie, hack hack.  Found another abandoned mine, but somehow the portal home waypoint from 1579m away.  Something about the coordinates got whacked.  Really glad I made a diamond backpack before setting out.  Hit 100%, off to aqua cavern.

Woo hoo, love this dimension.  now 74 blocks is 2.37% to next level.  It was a fun, mellow squid run, filled the diamond chest with mostly randomite drops.  Placed a Prefab villager blacksmith shop on the seafloor, one block above bedrock.  The wooden doors comically keep it airtight, a new safe place to take a breather.  So many squid, with all the drops from the various mods.  I did not see a guardian yet, but I'm sure they are out there.

Yikes, when I came back through the portal to the Overworld there was a creeper right in my face.  BOOM.  Broke the portal.  Plus, somehow, there was a cavenic skeleton on this side of thr portal?  Fro a dimension they don't even spawn in.  Scared the crap out of me, but I rebuilt the portal in no time.

Back in the Cavern dimension, after over an hour of roaming long caves and getting up to 33% to whatever the next mining level happens to be, still no library.  So I did a quick spectator mode view and I missed it by only about 20 blocks.  Went back, raided it, got 64+19 regular books and some magic books (3 teleport, 1 thunderbolt), but no mirage world books.  Game time is almost over for the night, so I misbehaved and did spectator mode again.  Those little rooms are still hard to find.  One was not far from an abandoned mine I was exploring.  This time I got a stack of normal books and one mirage book to the wide desert world.

First glimpse of the Cavern dimension library, just the stone brick pattern...

I didn't expect a "wide desert" dimension to be hopping with life, but boy it is sterile.  Endless sand with a few tiny sandstone shacks here and there, Pam's arid gardens, black kauri trees.  There are caves, mostly filled with lava.  And that is it.  I saw no mobs at night, no desert temples and no village.  I built the portal over at the big sandstone Academy 2 by Brixton but can't think ot a reason to ever visit there.

The Wide Desert dimension, a whole lot of nothing.

1240: stop by for a visit.  I dropped down the Prefab mod Welcome Center across the pond from Brixton.  An impressive building, meant to be the communal base for a whole player group.  Not craftable, but I wanted to see what it looked like.

1106: why not a nice long Nether expedition.  I found a Torrid Plains biome with a nether brick ship sitting in the lava just offshore.  Fenced off a small safe area.

1114: oh wow, that black ship was from the Fossils and Archaeology mod.  It has an Anu totem standing on the half-obsidian neck, and belowdecks was a colorful room with ancient glass windows, chests, skull lanterns, furnaces and an anvil.  New waypoint.  I'm not going to be messing with Anu today, but it's a perfect, secure base for future trips.

1123: I found what looked like the top of a nether fortress tower sticking up just at the lava surface.  Dropped down, made steps back up ... was immediately confronted with a wither skeleton called Wilt.  Two more spawned.  Soul Sand floor, two tiny rooms and a small chest.  Turned out this was from the Inventory Pets mod.  I got a furnace pet and some nuggets.  Wow, such variety and unexpected twists and turns.

1131: arctic abyss biome: frostburn ice, icy netherrack, blue flames.  Mobs: wights and frosts (a blue blaze-like thing that packs a punch).  Also some nether rime ore.

1151: my next quest after getting waypoints in as many of the NetherEx biomes as I could find near the portal, was to hike up to the high altitudes and look for ancient netherrack and primordial paleosol.  The Paleosol turns out to look a lot like the salt ore I have been mostly ignoring, though up close it's more like a decayed sort of bedrock texture, and takes longer to break than obsidian.  I found 8 of them on hillsides near the roof arch at 96y.

1250: I took another run through the Aqua Cavern world, targeting mostly randomite to get extra crops and elements.  Once again, when I came back through the portal, a creeper blew it up and there was a cavenic zombie in my face.  This time, it was reinforced, and I also heard a witch's cackle and there was a small swarm of silverfish.  When I came back with extra weapons, there were multiple holes in the floor and half the portal frame was gone.  I rebuilt the portal, then sorted some things from my gold drop chests and called it a night.

A peek at the Aqua Cave dimension
