Technic VeeTech: from Cairo to Rochester MN

7/14/2020 Technic VeeTech

Last night and tonight I was itching to explore.  I set off from the Sky Castle (two keeps connected by a bridge on a chunk of land that is not supposed to be connected to the ground).  I soon rediscovered Tinyville (just two long houses with villagers who have apparently been breeding), then found a mesa village with about 10 houses, 6 farm plots, and enough villagers to fill the usual large house with market pens.

If that wasn't enough, I crossed the edge of some blacked-out (unexplored) desert nearby and found one of the biggest villages and adventure spots anywhere on the map.  About 15 houses, 8 farm plots, villagers everywhere, and with a huge sandstone pyramid looming right behind the two main houses -- the entrance is literally right over one guy's back patio.  Also nearby, I spotted a long square wall of stone brick, and it turned out to be a mostly buried minotaur maze on the other side of town.  And rhinos wandering the streets.  Wow.  I will be exploring this area for a while.  Named the town Cairo.

Just beyond it on the map is a snowy area with a turtle castle and one of those fortified village keeps.

It's just endless.

On the way back to Farlander Fields, I marked a double keep with some farlander huts nearby, then a new galleon to sack one day.

Then crashed attacking a tiny ship, while opening the loot chest.  Relogged and broke the chest instead of opening it.  No unusual items found.  Replaced the chest, dumped some stuff in it ... on to the next place.  Passed a graveyard, caught the haunted armor in a safari net to take home and dupe.

Then another galleon next to a tiny desert isle.

Had a few crashes out in the ocean, but managed to tp back to a known base.

I found a sheepman along the way (he just appeared at my Nether ceiling base out in the endless dark) and cloned him in the spawner, placed them as traders in a house at Zephyr, only to have them despawn later.  By the way, the MFR grinder does not recognize the haunted armor, but the spawner makes about 6 of them on one bucket of essence, and they're easy enough to hack through a hole in the wall.  12 ectoplasm.

Last night I showed Anne the new town and adventure areas of Mesa and Cairo, and linked each back to my dimensional door village hub.

We also found a fairly large village under giant snowy trees, where there really did not appear to be anything but white lumps on the map.  Anne called it Rochester (MN).  Perfect, even if it was Rochester NY.

After she fell asleep, I went over to Fort Yakima (giant snow biome fortress with my weapons labs in it) and did a dimension door link to the neighboring Fort Spokane (different snow biome fortress).  I moved the emerald & diamond farm up to the original necromancer's secret treasure room with the quartz walls.  I did some cosmetic tune-ups at both locations, and planted some fruit trees and berry bushes at Spokane Village ... I also added two white horses that were sitting around in safari nets, and picked up two sheep to round it off.

Over at Redwood Base, I cycled through the bees and scanned the trees with spectacles for some mutant blocks, then went to the keep of magic and sorted a heap of magical books onto shelves -- it's a lot faster using the NEI search feature and double-clicking to highlight matching items, so easy to find all the Respiration books in those 4 chests, that's for sure.

Tonight, I am just having fun building out those two forts.  Adding some different blocks here and there, carving out windows, hollowing out sections of wall and mountain for small sheep and chicken pens, even some new living space.  Then going straight down to 50y in the Spokane Mine and putting a ladder for easy access.  In Yakima, I finally tunnelled a ladder up from the weapons lab to the upper keep 30 blocks up.  Easy access.

I ended up with about 6 stacks of stone bricks that I replaced or carved away from corners, and 4 stacks of cobble from other digging.  It's a lot more interesting now, with even more nooks and crannies to find.

A few fun little romps.  I showed Ann my "tiny island base" and we spent a fun hour building it into a little tropical getaway.  First, some fruit trees and a tiny plot for crops.  I had two apiaries and some bees to help spread flowers.  Added one tiny new island, then a doghouse with a doggie inside: technically a Project Zulu polar bear head that looked like her doggie, and a carpet as a blanket -- the house itself was a 1x2 space blocked out in wooden stairs.  Cute.  Then a main house and a photo op.  Other items: 4 boars running around ( but apparently they can't be tamed or bred), a pen with two sheep and a new pair of rainbow shears (DartCraft), a set of Chisel snake blocks making a kind of long-forgotten idol, and some cute shrubs made of a log and two force tree leaves.  The whole area is actually not far from Redwood Base -- in fact it's visible from on top of the thaum tower -- it just feels like it's a world away.
