Mod updates ... Overgrown 2026

260104 Overgrown 2026

While looking for old game logs to post to the blog, I saw how my MineColony failed.  The real problem was that when Minecraft switched to Microsoft accounts, my ScottVee name changed to ScottVee8 and since ScottVee owned all the MineColonies stuff, even after hours of trying to switch ownership, I gave up and had to remove the mod entirely.

I was trying to figure out why we never see any Animania animals in this world.  It turns out, right after the version I picked when I made this pack, PurpliciousCow split Animania into four mods: Base, Farm, Extra Animals, and Cats & Dogs.  So I cloned off the whole pack into a new one called "Overgrown 2026".  In with the new Animania mods and out with Bailey's Dailies (since their site is permanently down and the mod cannot find new quests again, ever).  It's running fine, and after a 20 minute search, I found some Animania Holstein cows way out at 1564, -1447.   The some Friesian Ewews and Rode Island Red Roosters.  I was worried that the Exotic Birds mod may be eating up all the mob cap, since I saw about 100 birds before finding these five new animals.  That's probably still an issue, but at least it's not a complete wash out.

Large black pigs on a mountain top at 1595, -1017.  Large whites at 1317,-1021.  They're all here, finally.

So this pack is finally living up to what I wanted it to be: huge amounts of plants and animals, not so much in the way of technology or magic.

While I'm building a new version, I'm going to update the Fossils mod and Inventory Pets.  Also, it looks like End Reborn III has changed to the Endorium mod, will skip that one.

BiblioCraft 2.4.5 to 2.4.6

Cavern II upgrade from 2.2.0 to 2.3.1

Chisel 0.2.1.35 to 1.0.2.45 (issues, revert)

EnderIO upgrade from .52 to .72

Future MC has done a huge update to include items from 1.15 to 1.18, netherite, smithing tables and all.  Newest is 0.2.21, I've got 0.1.13. I'm worried that adding all these new blocks might cause issues, skipping for now.

Next batch of upgrades:

NetherEx from 2.0.15 to 2.2.5.

Prefab from 1.3.0.26 to 1.3.1.7

Rockhounding mods

SimpleStorage from 1.7.10 to 2.0.0

Spice of Life 1.3.3 to 1.8.4

StorageDrawers from 5.4.0 to 5.5.3

Mods I don't even use:

Refined Relocation - this was useful in my CrazyCraft world, but here we have thousands of items to filter.

Here are the latest shots of the Exotic Birds sanctuary at Rustic village.

With those newly upgraded mods, the pack loaded with some errors about dependencies, including a slightly newer build of Forge to make Cavern II happy.  While I do prefer MultiMC as my game launcher, I forgot how easy Curseforge makes upgrading and adding mods.  After all, most mods are already in their vast repository, and it clearly shows the mod file versions for your modpack MC version, shows which version you have and how many newer ones there are.  From there, it's one click to upgrade.  Or just hit the Upgrade buttons on the mod list for your pack.  Or hit the "Upgrade All" at the top, but that doesn't sound like a great idea -- I'm a little more careful than that.

In fact, I had issues with that Chisel upgrade and the ConnectedTexturesMod that goes with it.  So I rolled that back.

I started off in Rustic town, where I setup a basic Simple Storage Network with about 8 chests.  I suppose with this much junk to collect, every settlement needs a dump storage.  Then individual buildings or work areas can have a sensible specialized chest or two, for things like Rustic crops or truffles.

I did a wide run around the edges of the known world, and found a good range of Animania mobs, including the angus cow, peacocks and the ocelots.  I named some waypoints such things as Peacock Point and Ocelot Fields.  Should be fun to go back and plan out a new menagerie.

Oddly, I am seeing almost none of the plants from the Plants mod.  I swear they used to be everywhere, 8 or 10 types in each biome.  Now, even around Brixton, there are only two-high roses and vanilla plants, plus the plants from Rustic and DungeonTactics.  Nothing from the Plants mod.  Out in new chunks I saw a very few of them.  So now those are going to be hard to find.

How funny ... I had recipes to make specific AnimalCrops seeds, all of them "X + seed + egg": emerald for a villager seed, leather for a cow seed.   But those scripts have all been broken ever since I removed MineColonies.

I spent a while looking at items and recipes, but it's hard to tell what changed with those upgrades.  The main thing is that this version of Animania has those two cows we spent hours trying to find in the Overgrowth 1.1 world, where they did not actually exist.  Plus the fox and wolf, ocelot, bees, and all the cats and dogs.  Apparently, you have to get those from a village Pet Merchant, so I spent a while spawning in villagers until I found one of the guys I needed.  Wow,  the critters cost 19 to 26 emeralds each.  But that should be worth it.  I wonder if the hamster wheels work now.  There are other new cat ornamentals, like the dog pillow, dog house, cat bed, cat tower, and food bowls.

Oh, there are eggs for random cat and random dog.  I suppose I should work up some quests where those would make acceptable rewards.

BiblioCraft has a big writing book now, which looks like it has up to six chapters, unknown number of pages each, with formatting.  And the Clipboard, which I thought came from Forestry and would not be available in this world for all the list of things we hunt for.

DungeonTactics has 8 different books you can craft with simple items, making a big guide to all the crazy things in that mod.  Iron Chests has colored shuker boxes.  I wonder if that shulker box duplicating bug has been fixed -- I have almost given up using those as once in a while the whole thing dupes in inventory.  There's Pam's BrewCraft with its 15 or 20 recipes for different drinks.  Hundreds of food items, crazy Pinkly Sheep stuff I haven't tried yet, and on and on.  Project Vibrant Journeys has a bunch of doors, new trees and woods, and leaf carpets, twigs and rocks to decorate.

Quality Tools.  A page and a half of Quark stuff, including color item frames, paper walls and those new stones.  All the Rockhounding and Super Blocks.  Totemic, even View Craft which for some reason I never use.

Plenty to do here.
