FTB Ultimate pack - technology notes
Notes on the FTB Ultimate Pack ...
Some observations about the Pulverizer and Induction Furnace (Thermal Expansion mod). I'm not sure why I've been such a zombie, always using pulverizer on my ores (to get 2 dusts each) and then running them through the Powered Furnace to get bars. If you drop the ores and some sand in the Induction Furnace, you get two bars right away, with a chance of slag or rich slag. Now sometimes you do want dusts to combine into electrum and invar ... and some ores will produce occasional bonus dusts, especially copper which gives about a 5% bonus of gold. And in the Induction Furnace using rich slag instead of sand will give you 3 ingots right away, I save the rich slag for running gold ore. You can also use sand + dusts in the Induction Furnace, cook two at once, wayyyy faster than any furnace will.
Note about Semifluid Generator. I finally got to play around with one of these, and they're good power sources. Right now I'm running oil (60k EU per bucket). It takes buckets, cans or cells full of oil AND it returned the empty containers. Nice! It sure used to be tiresome making bio cells or coalfuel cells, canning them into jerry cans, and having all that tin disappear every time. Best bet is to use the 3 tin = 12 cans recipe, or 4 of the otherwise useless Aluminum globs (xycraft) = 4 cans. The cans and cells all stack, unlike buckets. It only outputs 8 EU/t which is slow, but it's steady. I got my first MFE up to 500k while I was off exploring for a half hour. And with solars so thoroughly nerfed, an array of Semifluid Generators will sure come in handy. None of the wikis or spotlights seem to say how much liquid they can hold.
Argh. GregTech made the Mining Laser (my favorite toy) a royal pain to build. Needs titanium, 360k Helium coolant cell, other stuff that requires Industrial Centrifuge first. And of course my other favorite, the Rock Cutter, also needs Titanium now.
Hang on, titanium can only be made in the Industrial Blast Furnace (a multi-block colossus that must need 100+ metals to build) now? From titanium dust, which only comes in tiny piles from putting 12 bauxite dust in the Industrial Electrolyzer. Or from Titanium Comb if I want to screw with bees. Okay, I used to enjoy figuring out the supply and production lines, but this is starting to piss me off.
Made a Thermionic Fabricator. Used to be, a lot of those GregTech alternate recipes would take certain tubes in place of Electronic Circuits (which eat so much copper & rubber), seems like a lot of those options have gone away? The simple redstone chipset used to also be a valid substitute (just one redstone on the Assembly Table), now the iron gates seem like the minimum -- redstone & iron, then run again with pipe wire ... argh. Used to be a gold tube could substitute for the Advanced Electronic Circuit (which requires glowstone which requires a trip to Nether) (okay, 10% glowstone dust when running redstone ore in pulverizer but that needs Silk Touch first!), now there are no tube options and the minimum subtitute for Advanced Circuit is a diamond gate or autarchic gold gate, ouch.
Forestry: I like the idea of new electron tubes (emerald, apatine, lapis, obsidian, blazing, rubberized). A use for apatite, that's good. Other new ones don't seem to have any recipes yet. I think only used in the wacky Multi-Farm to "program" it.
