Quickhaven 4/12 to 4/15

4/12

Lunch - extended tunnel under village all the way back to spawn, then to my 2nd cliffside lair.  About 600m long total, but with all those landmarks in a straight line, and tons of mobs on surface, sure is faster!  Anyway, found some ores along the way: 3 cinnabar, 38 tin, 48 aluminum, 64 iron, 61 copper, also: 7 uranium, 10 quartz*, 96 clay, 14 blue xy, 54 red xy, 42 dark xy, 3 earth shards, 90 coal.  Not a bad haul for not really mining.  Intersected a few caves & a chasm along the way for future raids.

22:30 - Added a new xy tank with capacity 576b at (273,750) near my stub of a wiz tower, median between the 3 remaining wells ... started pumping from big spill at (297,726) = 48m away.  Distances are now (296,801) = 75m and (249, 769) = 34m.  Can always pump it to my first tank (107m away) when done.  Oh well, bit of a pain but fun to strategize.

22:55 - Bed.  Morning, new tank stuck at 23b ... well dry again.  Ran pump over to (249,769), hooked up pipes & go!

22:58 - New well is dry already!  Darn, next one is pretty far out there.

23:17 - Almost got pipeline out to 4th oil well in one game day, came up about 20 pipes short; run back to town, hack some cactus along the way.  Smelt stone & cactus, run aluminum & pulv copper (got one free gold dust) while I'm in there.

Current hoard in Thermal lab:
ORES: Al 96, Cu 64, Ferrous 3, Cinnabar 19, Galena 10, Monazit 15, Fe 64, Pb 46, Ag 46, Sn 43, W 8.
DUSTS: Al 64, Cu 60, Au 1, Ferrous 27, Fe 48, Invar 54, Shiny 3, Tin 7
INGOTS: Au 18, Fe 7, Ferrous 2, Pb 1, Invar 4, Sn 41

23:56 - After a smelting party, did a cactus run, made more waterproof stone pipe, ran out to desert to complete link to oil hole #4, pump on.  Pumping!   Tank #2 at 45,000mb.

00:12 - One game day of hacking trees.  Chopped two giant fir trees & 3 rubber trees, got: 51 fir logs, 20 rubber logs (in Sawmill = 80 planks + 9 resin), 20 rubber drops, 65 fir saplings (future plantballs), 2 rubber saplings after replanting originals.

New morning, ran out to oil hole #4, next hole was only about 20 blocks further, came up 6 pipes short, whacked cacti and ran back to wiz tower base to cook some more.  Jeepers already.  No other oil within reach after this 5th hole, far as I can tell.  Nightfall, took tunnel back to HQ, hop in bed.

Pumped from 5th hole.  Tank 2 at 78,000mb+.  Explored further out: two new oil holes at (340, 700) and (304,652).  Probably too far to bother with, over 150 blocks from either tank, though I do now have about 100 waterproof pipes.  Back to town, done for night.

22:00 - Login, setup demo of xycraft Fabricator (make Fabricators) for possible video.  So what if some people will just gripe about my lag?  There are so many new gadgets to talk about!  Ran out to tanks: tank #1 has 54,910mb; tank #2 has 81,000mb.  Enough oil for now.  Maybe pump #1 into #1 and use #2 for lava?  I think there was some right under there.

23:00 - Built a building around the twilight portal, wood & marble with glass viewer windows and skylight.  Took the plunge -- went through the portal.  Oddly, it came out on top of a mushroom on the other side!  Added marble steps down to ground, did some quick recon and used cobble walls to stake out a tiny safe zone around the portal shroom.  Using big map I see what may be a lich tower in distance (SW), but the radar shows all kinds of skeletons and blue dudes between here and there.  Still very laggy even on tiny render distance.  I probably wouldn't survive long out there; but I'll come down every now and then and expand our beachhead.

Popped back to surface, night time, skeletons outside.  So I'm writing these notes while waiting for a chance to run for home (my bed is about 60m away at Quickhaven).  Morning ... stepped outside, creeper boom, big hole.  Just missed the building though.

My old armor pieces are shot.  Made new iron pieces and ran to village to enchant them: chestplate Fire Protection I, boots Blast Protection II.  Goes well with my other two pieces which have Protection II but are about 20% damaged.  Made a mad dash to tank #1, ran pipe all the way out to pump #2.  No, these tanks don't automatically output to wooden pipe, so added a stirling engine and oil started to flow.

01:18 - Tank #1 at 134,910mb, tank 2 must be empty now.  Railcraft lab: setup stirling engine and conductive pipes, made Carpenter, pump creosote oil down from coke oven above (to make wooden ties); made rolling machine and first batch of rails.  Read up on all rolling machine recipes.

01:49 - Made our first Nether portal on a little platform just offshore.  First foray was reasonably quiet - no pigmen in sight, only distant ghasts.  Radar map is neat in the Nether, shows where all the critters are, and ghasts show up so clearly on the dark background.  But it still shows the Overworld waypoints??  Dug down right away, almost fell off cliff.  Dug back up and walled in the area around the portal.  Added a few Glass Viewer windows (don't know if they're blast resistant but they look nice).  Heard bats.  Then whacked one piece of nether coal ore, heard some distant piggies squeal, ore blew up and took out part of my wall, got outta there.

Done for night.

00:15 - Successful nether run. Dropped off stacks of stone & stone brick & cobble fences for expansion.  Repaired minor damage from last night's blast.  Got attacked by a fire bat??  Some ghasts overhead but I stayed underground.  Heard no pigmen.  Hacked away at two types of yellow nether ore, no sound of upset pigmen.  Ended up with 38 pyrite dust, 58+64 sphalerite dust, 32 cinnabar dust, 15 zinc dust and a yellow garnet.  All without hitting a "nether ore" (from NetherOres mod) that would have brought piggies down on my head.  Plus 95 netherrack for future overworld crafting into nether bricks to make my blast furnace.  Seems like the nether portal came out on a chain of islands high above lava.  Not sure if there's a way down to surface yet, but I need soul sand next.  Will try again.
