Ignored by Curseforge, new Mesa Bowl area

260302 Overgrown 2026

I finally went ahead and tried adding this project to Curseforge.  It warned me that some of the mods were not available at CF, but maybe they can list the ones they reject and I can get the rest of the pack available.  If not, the whole zip is only 32 megs, so maybe I can just drop it somewhere and link to it, assuming anyone reading the blog wants to try it out for themselves.

Anyway, my description was: "Overgrown 2026 is a retro 1.12.2 modpack designed for rich world generation.  Starting with the super detailed worldgen of Open Terrain Generator, with plants and animals galore (Plants mod, Harvestcraft, Animania, Animania Cats & Dogs, Fossils & Archaeology), some tune-ups for other dimensions (NetherEx and End Reborn III).  More dimensions?  There are the mirage worlds of Cavern II. There are adventure mods (Dungeon Tactics, Roguelike Dungeons) with tons of structures to explore.  I wanted storage to be reasonable, so there's Simple Storage.  This is not meant to be a high tech world, but I did add EnderIO and Extra Utilities for more tech.  Finally, there are some under-appreciated mods that are well worth the experience: Vanilla Food Pantry, Pinkly Sheep, Smart Hoppers -- hundreds of recipes and things to work on, even a tech tree based on green waste and a giant beanstalk that will try to kill you."

It will probably be rejected.  But I do have 3 other, older packs hosted there.

It was a bit of a brain-dead night.  I went and cleared the bottom level Nether room with the big lava pool in the middle and blazes everywhere -- the blaze spawner is in the obsidian box on the walkway over the lava pool.  Without a cloud pet, that would have been really difficult.  Although, for all of these final Nether chambers, you can dig above them, mine down over the spawners, and take them out from above.  Though by the time you get it all lined up right, I bet there are 30 or 40 mobs down below, and the skellies might knock you off of your perch up above.  These are very well designed encounter areas.

Then, off to my dungeon excavation: I cleared a bit more, made some more stacks of compressed cobble & stone, and some double compressed, while the storage drawers are you to 4K or 5K of the most common blocks and I need a few more upgrades.  I finally got to the stairs down to level two.  These things are enormous -- already about 25 blocks below the surface.  The whole thing must be about 100x100 by 55 blocks deep.

260303 Overgrown 2026

I just want to do some exploring tonight.  So I booked back to Brixton, grabbed more ender pearls and paper and made 9 more warp pages.  Then I looked for wome waypoints worth adding to my book.  I chose "4 pyramids" (-936 84 -136) and it was a winner.  Yes, there are 4 pyramids in the desert/forest area.  One of them is a regular dungeon, and there was also a jungle-lined pit with a chest and a few zombies (-921 63 -306).  That was an odd structure: no spiral stair down, and under the stone slab floor, it looks like 20 layers of solid cobble.

The chest had a rare MegaLoot case: a rare bow called Black Widow.  From Smart Hoppers, there was an Unclaimed Lost+Found sack (2 em, 3 D, 3 quartz), another one (9 emerald nuggets, 6 lapis).  Oh wow, I don't see my little bag full of pets.  Found it in one of my packs.  Would have sucked leaving that in some random chest who-knows-where.  Then the little black "Ammo" bag (3 fire charge, 8 fire charge marbles, 15 arrows).

There are a lot of Animania animals out here.  Black pigs, old spot pigs diggin up truffles, chickens (orpingtons at -1101 70 -154), more.

There is a tower dungeon at -812 80 -7 with tarpit next to it.  One of those stone-brick shacks with tinted windows at -952 72 40, those have the spiral stair down, iron golem waiting to help.  Unexplored brick dungeon house at -652 76 -219.

I flew around to fill in some black areas of the world map and found an skinny tower with pink/purple windows and spiral stair going up and down.  New waypoint "purple tower" at -1427 70 -280.  Purple and yellow windows going up - I put torches behind them, looks nice from outside.

Skinny tower at -1127 82 367.  There were a few ladders going up the side, but this was in a blacked out part of the map and none of the chests had been touched.

Wow, in a huge crater between two tans mesas is a dungeon tower.  Waypoint "mesa pit dungeon."  -775 95 775.  Rabbits, goats and pigs on top of nearby mesa (-561 138 779) with not a scrap to eat.  Savanna completely surrounded by mesas at -451 89 1011 ... wow, I mean completely locked in without about 150 blocks of tree-filled plains inside.  I dropped down a Prefab villager house and called it Mesa Bowl Base.  Waypointed, and made a book page for future visits.

Exposed mineshaft at -502 72 1471.

Those were some of the most amazing feats of worldgen I have seen.  There were some smaller grasslands within the mesas, and a river winding between towering terracotta cliffs, with some perches high up just begging to have little bases added.

From there, I just want to seed a few more warp book pages, so I stopped at Academy 1, where my enchanting table and future enchanted book library are based.  Renamed it to Academy Library and added a warp page, dropped off a bunch of enchanted books and added a chest for all the duped warp pages while I was there.  Made a warp page at Eastwick.

That's good for tonight.  Got some good snapshots of my explorations.  Those mesas full of animals will be a fun couple of quests with Anne.  If ever there was a perfect spot to gather the Animania animals, it is in those vast mesa bowls.
